Calgary’s only floating sound bath lets you unwind on a paddleboard this summer

12 August 20263 Mins Read

A floating sound bath is coming to Calgary’s Carburn Park, where you can spend up to an hour relaxing on a paddleboard while surrounded by nature. The experience is billed as Calgary’s only on-the-water sound healing event held on paddleboards and is open to all skill levels. So if your paddleboard is still sitting around waiting for its summer debut, this is a great reason to finally get it back on the water, without much effort required.

Now before you head out on the water, let’s take a look at what you can expect during the sound bath.

Everything that’s going down at the floating sound bath experience

The experience will take place at Carburn Park, a 135-hectare natural park in southeast Calgary that is known for its lakes, wetlands, and walking paths. From there, you’ll head over to Big Lake, which is the furthest lake from the parking lot, where you’ll get settled onto your paddleboard before the sound bath begins.

During the one-hour guided session, you’ll float peacefully on the water while listening to soothing sound frequencies that are designed to help you relax your body and calm your mind. According to Paddleaboard, the idea is to slow down, tune out distractions and take a break from the usual hustle and bustle.

And if you’re not a paddleboarding pro, it’s all good; the sessions are open to all skill levels, so whether you’ve been out on a board all summer or yours has been sitting in the garage collecting dust, you can take part.

Location and pricing

The floating sound bath sessions run every Monday and Wednesday evening from now until the end of September, with the final date depending on the weather.

Sessions cost $55 per person if you bring your own paddleboard and life jacket. If you don’t own your own equipment, that’s okay too. You can rent a paddleboard and any extra gear you might need for an additional $20.

Advance booking is required, but if you’re unsure about your availability that day, you can book up to an hour before the event so you don’t have to lock in your plans too far ahead of time. Just keep in mind that since spots are limited, waiting until the last minute could mean missing out.

If you haven’t had the chance to whip out your paddle board this season, what better excuse to finally get it back on the water? You’ll get to enjoy the summer sunshine, float around Carburn Park and relax a little while you’re at it.

Now the only question is, will you be able to stay awake for the whole sound bath?

When: Every Monday and Wednesday evening until the end of September
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Carburn Park – 67 Riverview Dr. SE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: $55 per person
