Dune: Part Three is fast approaching, and tickets are now on sale ahead of the film’s Dec. 18 release date. There are screenings available in IMAX, 70MM, D-Box (motion-enabled seats), Dolby, Premium Large Format, and IMAX 70MM theaters.
Early access “Dune Insider” screenings are available for Dec. 14 and 15, but those tickets seem scarce — I waited in a 30-minute queue to snag mine, and by then most seats were already gone. The news came alongside a new mini-trailer for the film showcasing Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), Chani (Zendaya), and Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) preparing for galactic war.
The announcement comes not long after The Odyssey kicked off an IMAX craze, becoming the highest-earning film in the format. Shortly after, Spider-Man: Brand New Day carried the torch with a similarly huge showing. Much like The Odyssey, Dune: Part Three will be available in the highly exclusive 70MM IMAX format (only 34 theaters in the United States are showing the film in that format). Those who saw The Odyssey in that format likely got an exclusive early look at Part Three, featuring a stunning battle scene that put a sci-fi spin on D-Day imagery.
Director Denis Villeneuve has said that Dune: Part Three will be his last Dune movie. The film will adapt Dune Messiah, the second book in Frank Herbert’s long-running sci-fi series, set years later amid a horrific conflict.
Villeneuve wrote the screenplay alongside acclaimed author Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Saga). Hans Zimmer is returning to compose the soundtrack, while Linus Sandgren (La La Land, First Man, Wuthering Heights) is taking over for Greig Fraser as cinematographer.
Dune: Part Three will likely further cement 2026 as a comeback year for the film industry. The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day have each passed a billion dollars at the global box office. Together, the films scored the biggest single weekend in domestic box-office history, putting this year on track to be the first since 2019 to clear $10 billion domestically. Part Three comes out the same day as Avengers: Doomsday, so it’s quite possible we’ll see another box office boom this December.
