GURNEE, Ill. – Six Flags Great America announced the return of their annual Halloween event, “Fright Fest”, for the celebration’s 35th year. The park transforms after dark, with spooky rides and haunted attractions.
About “Fright Fest”
Halloween at Six Flags:
Six Flag Great America will be hosting “Fright Fest” from Sept. 19 to Nov. 1, transforming the park after dark into a Halloween themed space with different haunted attractions. The event will include five haunted mazes, seven scare zones, and entertainment experiences. Some of the themes for these attractions are original nightmares, while others are from beloved horror franchises.
Guests will also be able to ride some of the theme park’s rides and roller coasters, but in darkness to add some extra fright to the spooky night.

“Fright Fest’s” spooky event offerings
Haunted Mazes :
Guests are invited to test their courage and labyrinth solving skills inside five different haunted mazes at this year’s event. These are this year’s haunted maze selections:
- Blair Witch: No Signal: A new maze experience based on the popular horror film, “The Blair Witch Project”
- Nightmares: Another new maze, this experience takes guests through a series of nightmare dreamscapes with clowns, spiders, and brutal carnage
- The Conjuring Universe: This maze is based on the horror film franchise, “The Conjuring”, and takes guests through the Perron farmhouse
- SAW: Legacy of Terror: In this haunted maze, guests travel through the twisted mind of the famous film’s Jigsaw character
- The Estate at Wretched Meadows: A longtime “Fright Fest” favorite, this maze takes guests through immersive storytelling in eerie environments
Scare Zones:
“Fright Fest” will also feature seven “scare zones”, providing immersive areas throughout the park for guests to get their thrills and adrenaline rushes.

Necropolis Returns will be headlining the scare zones this year. This scare zone is a fan-favorite and is returning for the first time since 2014. It is being revived as a part of Six Flags Great America’s 50th Anniversary.
This scare zone’s theme features a city that is inhabited and haunted by the undead.
Live Entertainment:
Performances are also a key aspect of “Fright Fest”. Live entertainment includes returning performances of “The Uprising: Nightly Call of the Dead,” “The Ringmaster’s Cabaret,” and “Love at First Fright”.
In addition to these returning favorites, there will be two new spooky performances. These will be the new “Masquer-RAVE” and “The Velvet Quarter”, which will offer people an acoustic escape from the screams and nightmares with haunting music medleys.
Less frightful, family-friendly fall fun
Tricks and Treats:
For younger guests, Six Flags also offers “Tricks and Treats” during the daytime. The celebration features Halloween decor, seasonal treats, and festive entertainment with activities for families across the park. Tricks and Treats runs Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 19 to Nov. 1.
Additional details on the lineup of events for “Tricks and Treats” will be announced at a later date, according to Six Flags.
Oktoberfest:
Another non-spooky event offered at Six Flags in the fall is Oktoberfest. The festival will offer autumnal foods and beverages, most notably, German-inspired favorite brews and food.
This event will take place on select days, also running from Sept. 19 to Nov. 1, according to Six Flags.
