’90s Country Star Collin Raye Turns 66

Collin Raye is celebrating another milestone.

The country star, best known for hits including “Love, Me,” “In This Life” and “That’s My Story,” turns 66 on Aug. 22.

Born Floyd Collin Wray in De Queen, Arkansas, in 1960, Raye began making his mark on country music in the early 1990s. His major-label debut album, All I Can Be, arrived in 1991 and quickly established him as one of the genre’s rising stars.

“Love, Me,” the album’s lead single, became Raye’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The emotional ballad helped define the singer’s early career and remains one of his best-known recordings.

Raye followed his debut with a string of successful albums and singles throughout the decade.

His 1992 album, In This Life, produced the title track, which reached No. 1 on the country chart. The song became another signature recording for Raye, whose powerful vocals and emotionally direct material helped him stand out during a particularly competitive period in country music.

Other major hits included “I Can Still Feel You,” “My Kind of Girl,” “That’s My Story,” “Little Rock” and “If I Were You.”

Raye earned multiple nominations from the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association during his career, including CMA nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year.

Raye has continued releasing music and performing for fans decades after his breakthrough.

His career has included more than a dozen studio albums, with songs that helped make him one of the recognizable voices of ’90s country.

Now 66, Raye can look back on a career that began with a No. 1 hit and produced some of the era’s most memorable country ballads.
