These are Canada’s most-searched slang words according to a new report

When it comes to slang, we Canucks have a language all our own. From loonies to double-doubles, we’ve got a knack for leaving international visitors scratching their heads.

But do you really have to be Canadian to understand slang?

These days, most people — millennials, Gen Zers, and seasoned boomers trying to keep up — have a slang word for just about anything: X and Y and even Canadian cities themselves.

And if you’ve spent any time on TikTok lately, you’ve probably encountered a few; a baffling example would be “6-7.” Seriously, what does it mean?!

It can be confusing to keep up with all the emerging slang words. Luckily, Word Unscrambler crunched 2026 Google search data to find out which slang words Canadians are searching for the most. The ranking combines Google Trends data with Ahrefs’ search volumes, looking at 150 different search variations for each slang term.

Using slang words is a social signal, says Word Unscrambler spokesperson Randoh Sallihall.

“The most searched slang words of 2026 give insight into the cultural conversations happening in Canada. Using slang is a social signal,” World Unscrambler says, adding that oftentimes, slang helps people navigate identity and belong to a community.

6-7: Merriam-Webster defines it as “a nonsensical expression,” originating from the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla. In 2025, NBA star LaMelo Ball made a TikTok about being 6 feet 7 inches tall, and suddenly “6-7” became a thing.

Rizz: Charm, style, charisma — whatever you call it; it’s all about that smooth ability to attract a crush or make people like you.

Mog: To outclass someone else by appearing more attractive, skillful or successful than them.

Example: “Monica dressed to impress and is completely mogging the whole office today.”

Gooning: Originally used in online communities to describe a prolonged session of self-pleasure, “gooning” has evolved into slang for obsessing over something like a crush, hobby, or conspiracy theory.

Example: “He spent the entire weekend in his room gooning over aliens instead of studying for his final exams.”

Chud: An insult for internet trolls or anyone you find obnoxious. Calling someone a “chud” is like saying they’re a fool or a jerk.

Larper: Nope, it’s not about medieval knights anymore. These days, it’s slang for someone pretending to be something they’re not just to get attention — basically, a poser or a try-hard.

Cap, no cap: Cap means you’re telling a lie, making a fake claim or exaggeration. Whereas “no cap” means you’re telling the truth.

Example: “That was the best burger I’ve ever had, no cap, but those fries were total cap.”

Foid: Sigh. A derogatory term for women (short for “femoid”), and it’s pretty offensive. It’s used to insult women, often in misogynistic online spaces. Not cool, folks!

Unc: This one’s simple; it’s short for uncle. People use it to describe someone old, out of time, or past their prime.

Example: “Elon Musk thinks his Cybertruck is the shizz, but he just looks like a total unc trying to stay relevant.”

Chopped: When someone looks rough, unattractive, or just plain ugly.

Clock it: Agreeing with a sharp observation, calling something out or stating an unspoken truth.

Example: “Viewers clocked it immediately when the new bombshell on Love Island pretended to like the boy in the couple just to stay safe from elimination.”

Torta: A Spanish word used to describe an overweight, chubby, or curvy woman. [Editor’s Note: as a “torta” myself, I would advise people not to use this word, like, ever!]

Cracked: Skillful and talented, especially in gaming. If someone’s “cracked,” that means they’re a pro, a legend, an icon.

Aura points: Another Gen Z/Alpha slang term that acts as a playful, invisible scoring system for a person’s coolness, charisma, and social presence.

Example: “Ugh, Jack just lost 5,000 aura points by refusing to delegate tasks to his colleagues.”

Gerbert: A playful insult meaning someone is weak, foolish or acting like a baby. The word references the iconic Gerber Baby branding often seen on specific baby products.

That’s quite a lot to take in at once.
