The AI Hospitality Alliance (AIHA), in partnership with HotelLogic, today announced the publication of The PMS Landscape Is Manageable: The 2026 PMS API Power Index™, Volume I – an unprecedented assessment of the global hotel property management system market through the lens of API accessibility, integration readiness, and support for innovation.
The research audited 343 PMS vendors and found that only 24 (just 7% of the market) publish fully public, self-service API documentation. The remaining 93% have gated or publicly undocumented API environments.
Of the qualifying general-purpose hotel PMS platforms, the study evaluated 18 product profiles representing 17 companies across ten dimensions, including operational programmability, event-driven capabilities, AI readiness, integration breadth, data-model depth, developer experience, production reliability, governance and security, ecosystem maturity, and documentation quality.
The complete report and scorecard are available to the hospitality industry free of charge, reflecting the Alliance’s commitment to making essential research, insights, and education accessible to the entire industry.
“This study gives the industry something it has never had before: an objective, evidence-based way to understand how PMS platforms enable (or constrain) the broader hotel technology ecosystem,” said Ira Vouk, Founder and CEO of the AI Hospitality Alliance. “The question is no longer simply whether your PMS can run your hotel. The question is whether your PMS can power everything that comes next.”
Built on evidence, not opinion
The PMS API Power Index is based entirely on publicly available documentation and objectively measurable criteria. It does not rely on vendor marketing claims, private demonstrations, analyst preference, or subjective assessments.
Every score is supported by dated evidence and calculated using a fixed, published methodology. Each capability is evaluated against clearly defined scoring bands, and the ten scores are combined using predetermined weights.
Before publication, every scored PMS company received its results (including its composite score, individual capability scores, scoring rationale, and supporting evidence) and was given an equal opportunity to identify factual inaccuracies or provide additional primary-source documentation. Scores were changed only when the submitted evidence supported an adjustment.
Some organizations financially supported the distribution of the research. Sponsorship did not influence the methodology, scoring, findings, rankings, or vendor placement. The study is not pay-to-play.
Key findings
-
Only 24 of 343 audited PMS vendors (7%) publish fully public, self-service API documentation.
-
API availability does not necessarily indicate API maturity. Scores among the 18 assessed profiles range from 80.0 to 26.3.
-
The five highest-scoring platforms achieved composite scores of 73.3 or above, while the remaining 13 scored below 60.
-
Event-driven capabilities vary dramatically across the market, even among PMS providers with public APIs.
-
No assessed provider achieved the highest possible score for AI readiness, demonstrating that hospitality infrastructure still has significant room to evolve for an agentic future.
-
Public documentation, developer tooling, security disclosures, webhooks, sandboxes, and machine-readable specifications remain major differentiators among providers.
Why this matters to the entire hospitality industry
For PMS providers, the scorecard establishes a transparent benchmark for understanding how they compare with the broader market. More importantly, it offers an actionable roadmap for improving API accessibility, documentation, developer experience, security transparency, real-time capabilities, and AI readiness.
For hoteliers, the research provides an evidence-based starting point for PMS procurement and technology due diligence. It helps hotel companies evaluate not only whether a PMS can support today’s operations, but whether it can enable the integrations, data access, automation, and AI capabilities they will need in the future.
For non-PMS technology providers, the findings can inform integration strategies, development priorities, resource allocation, and decisions about which platforms offer the strongest environment for building and maintaining connected solutions.
For investors, consultants, and industry organizations, the index provides a new source of structured evidence for market assessment, product strategy, integration feasibility, technology due diligence, and identification of infrastructure constraints affecting hospitality innovation.
“This is not about declaring one PMS universally right for every hotel,” said Stewart Moss of HotelLogic. “Every hotel company has different operational, geographic, commercial, and technology requirements. The purpose of the study is to make a previously opaque part of the decision-making process more transparent and to give every stakeholder better evidence with which to make informed decisions.”
A living industry benchmark
The PMS API Power Index™is designed as a living benchmark rather than a one-time report. Formal scorecard updates are planned twice a year, allowing the industry to monitor progress as PMS platforms improve their APIs, documentation, developer tools, and integration environments.
PMS providers are encouraged to publish updated API documentation and submit the relevant public evidence for future review. All providers will continue to be assessed against the same methodology and evidence standards.
