‘The Ring’ quest walkthrough in The Blood of Dawnwalker

16 September 20266 Mins Read

To complete “The Ring” quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you must decide whether to give Farkas his family heirloom or not. He’ll be very upset if you don’t… But then again, the amethyst ring does look a bit suspicious. Although you’ve just defeated Boyar Bakir, deciding his fate is nothing compared to this dilemma.

Here’s what happens if you give Farkas the ring in The Blood of Dawnwalker‘s “The Ring” quest, and where to find a person versed in the arcane.

[Ed. note: This guide contains spoilers for The Blood of Dawnwalker, so continue at your own risk! Feel free to follow along or bookmark this page and come back if you get stuck.]

‘The Ring’ quest walkthrough in The Blood of Dawnwalker

“The Ring” starts automatically once you’ve defeated Boyar Bakir in The Blood of Dawnwalker‘s “The Lunar Game” quest. To find the ring with a purple gem, also referred to as the amethyst ring by Farkas, use the Focus mode to spot the small box on the shelf in the northwest corner of the treasury, and loot it.

It’s no use trying to leave the treasury without talking to Farkas; whether you’ve got the ring or not, you’ll get locked in a dialogue screen as soon as you set foot outside. If you haven’t found the ring yet, you can tell Farkas to look for it himself, but beware that “The Ring” will instantly fail if you do so (though you get the same quest outcome as when you give the ring to Farkas). It’s therefore better to pick: “I’m still looking.”

Once you’ve got the ring, you must make an important decision and complete a few follow-up steps:

  1. Decide whether to give the ring to Farkas.
  2. Depending on your choice, show the ring to someone versed in the arcane.
  3. Optionally, visit Farkas and Dusan’s home in Parlita to find out what happened.

Should you give Farkas the ring in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Farkas will ask you to give him the ring, but you have the option to refuse. To help you make this decision, be sure to inspect not just the purple gem, but also the runic inscriptions at the back of the ring. This won’t influence the quest, but it will give you more info about the ring’s true nature.

During your conversation with Farkas, say, “The deal is off, unless you tell me the truth” to learn why Farkas wants the ring. Farkas discloses that his younger brother, Dusan, was abused by Bakir, resulting in severe psychological and physical problems. Bakir once promised to give the amethyst ring to Farkas, claiming it could cure Dusan, but he never fulfilled this promise. In other words, Farkas’ reason to help you kill Bakir, and subsequently demand the ring, is to save his brother.

If you pretend you couldn’t find the ring, Farkas won’t believe you, so you still have to make the decision whether to give him the ring, refuse, or resort to cold-blooded murder. Here’s what happens based on your choice:

  • Give Farkas the ring: Farkas is grateful, and “The Ring” quest shall be completed. However, if you take the trouble to visit Farkas’ house in Parlita, you will discover that he and Dusan suffered an awful fate.
  • Refuse to give Farkas the ring: Farkas is initially very angry, but if you visit his house later, he and his brother are doing relatively well. “The Ring” quest continues, and you must show the ring to someone with knowledge of the arcane to complete it.
  • Murder Farkas: You won’t be able to enter Farkas’ house or meet his brother anymore, but “The Ring” quest continues — you still have to find someone knowledgeable to look at the ring. Beware that this murder may happen unintentionally if it’s night and your blood level is too low.

Find someone who knows more about the ring in The Blood of Dawnwalker

If you decide to keep the ring, your next task is to show it to someone “versed in the arcane.” That includes the following three people: Anca, the Sanzhani Tsarina, and the Uriashi Elder. They will each offer to take the ring off your hands and give you something in return, but beware that this costs two time segments.

  • Give the ring to Anca. You’ll find her at the Crossroads Inn east of Svartrau City (also the starting point for the “Echoes of Silenced Bells” quest). She’ll give you a Quick Fighter’s Ring (epic quality) in return, which improves human health and human health restoration, and reduces swordmastery ability cooldown.
  • Give the ring to the Uriashi Elder. She’s in Uriash Village, in the mountains west of Svartrau City. She’ll give you the Vrakhir’s Endurance necklace (epic quality), which improves blood drinking restoration, magical damage reduction, and physical damage reduction.
  • Give the ring to the Sanzhani Tsarina. She’s in the Yawning Burrow in the Svartrau Outskirts. Just like the Uriashi Elder, she’ll give you the Vrakhir’s Endurance necklace in return for the ring.

Giving away the ring doesn’t seem to have any further implications, so feel free to base this choice on the reward; Anca’s reward improves Coen’s human form, whereas the Elder’s and Tsarina’s reward boost his vampire abilities. If the reward doesn’t seem worth the time segments, you can also keep the ring.

Meeting the Uriashi Elder requires you to complete the “Song of the Mountain” quest (which is also part of Lacra’s quest line), whereas meeting the Sanzhani Tsarina requires you to complete the “Good Home” quest. There’s no need to do every Sanzhani quest before handing her the ring, though. Giving the ring to Anca is easiest, as you won’t have to complete any additional quests to meet her (though, of course, she must be alive).

How to find out what happened to Farkas in The Blood of Dawnwalker

To find out what happened to Farkas and his brother in The Blood of Dawnwalker, visit their house in Parlita, on the east side of town.

If you gave Farkas the ring, use Focus mode to pick up the journal, the jester’s hat, and the bloodied knife, and use them to compel the corpse in the bedroom. You can only do so during the daytime. You will find that the demonic ring took possession of Farkas, leading him to murder his brother.

If you refused to give Farkas the ring, simply enter the house and have a chat with Farkas. He’ll be happy to see you, even though his brother is still ill.
