To find all the best armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you would have to scour the map, complete a bazillion quests, and become filthy rich. Luckily, you don’t need to find every legendary armor piece, as some are far better suited to your play style than others. The four best armor sets in the game offer the perfect loadouts for an all-round, vampirism, witchcraft, or swordmastery build, so let’s find the perfect one for you.
Here’s how to find the best legendary armor set in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
How to find the best armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker
Whereas Ancient Greaves are the perfect trousers for a witch-y daytime-Coen, they wouldn’t fit a nighttime set, nor would they be the best choice for a swordmastery-focused build, which is why we’ve divided the best armor sets in The Blood of Dawnwalker by playstyle. As a general rule, legendary armor pieces have better stats than lower-quality armor pieces, so we’ve only included legendary equipment on this list of the best Dawnwalker armor.
Note that your armor won’t level up automatically, so be sure to pay an armourer to upgrade your favorite set. Since upgrading armor is quite pricey, it’s yet another reason to focus on one or two sets, only. An armor piece’s stats will improve as it levels up.
If you’re wearing medium or heavy armor, be sure to upgrade the Second Skin I and Second Skin II perks in the swordmastery skill tree! Without those perks, you can’t wear medium or heavy armor without suffering a stat penalty.

Nothing can hurt you if you’re wearing the Arbiter’s legendary heavy armor set; it offers a very high base armor, a maximum health increase, and better health regeneration, no matter if it’s day or night. Extra activation charge restoration is always handy, and you get both witchcraft and vampirism buffs.
The great benefit to such an all-round legendary armor set is that you won’t need to upgrade two different sets of armor, which saves a lot of time and money. On top of that, the Arbiter Armor set doesn’t require a specific play style (no need to build your critical chance, for example). All components are rewarded by the same quest, which, although it’s a lengthy one, saves you from having to collect armor pieces from various locations.
To obtain the full Arbiter Armor set, you must complete a quest called “A Bulwark Against Darkness.” This quest becomes available upon reaching infamy level 4 (see the court menu). Our quest walkthrough will show you where to find an Uriashi blacksmith and how to bring her every material needed to craft this legendary armor set.

If you’d rather wear a specialized vampire armor set, look no further than Isbrand’s gear. His greaves mainly increase claw damage, which is further enhanced by their claw critical damage (so be sure to fight with your claws rather than a sword), and his plate offers the extra claw critical hit chance you’ll need. For even more claw damage and critical chance, be sure to pair Isbrand’s armor with the Wolven Bracers.
As there are only two legendary armor pieces formerly belonging to Isbrand in the game, you’ll have to find matching pieces in other armor sets. Instead of the aforementioned Wolven Bracers, you can also equip the Vrakhiric Bracers, which offer similar claw damage but allow you to use your vampirism abilities more often — if you already have a high claw critical chance, Vrakhiric Bracers are the better option. By far the best boots for a vampire-focused armor set are the Vrakhir’s Treads, which boost your maximum vampire health and vampire HP restoration more than any other gear.
Here’s where you’ll find the best vampire armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker:
- Isbrand’s Plate: In the chamber where you find Isbrand, at the end of “Hive and Seek” (one of Lacra’s quests).
- Isbrand’s Greaves: Defeat the kobolds and loot the treasure chest southwest of the Gravel Lea shrine.
- Vrakhir’s Treads: Loot it from Chariklea’s Room at the end of “The Cycle of Love” (Xanthe’s quest).
- Wolven Bracers: Investigate the dead bodies west of Burner’s Clearing and complete the “Of Wolves and Men” quest.
- Vrakhiric Bracers: In Bakir’s treasury, at the end of “The Lunar Game.”

For a witchcraft-focused build, Runic Enchantment offers the highest witchcraft ability damage, but beware: It offers zero armor, so you’ll be far more vulnerable to damage. This doesn’t have to be a problem if you pair it with some sturdy Ancient Armor pieces, but a full Ancient Armor set including the Ancient’s Hero’s Armour chestpiece may be a safer choice. Plus, its increased activation charge restoration will help you use your witchcraft abilities more often.
Boosting both witchcraft and activation charge restoration, the Ancient Greaves are without a doubt the best trousers for a witchcraft build, but since they’re locked behind a certain quest outcome (see below), the Enhanced Shin Guards of the Arbiter are the best alternative.
Here’s where you’ll find the best witchcraft armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker:
- Ancient Hero’s Armour: Complete “In the Name of the Father” by defeating Rigoz in the underground crypt.
- Runic Enchantment: Automatically obtained during the “Stronger Than Achilles” quest.
- Ancient Greaves: Obtained at the end of the “Stronger Than Achilles” quest, but only if you destroy The Font of Life.
- Enhanced Shin Guards of the Arbiter: Complete “A Bulwark Against Darkness.” See the “best overall armor set” section above.
- Ancient Footwear: Complete “Xanthe’s Excavations: Bloodied Dagger” just northeast of the Tantari Bog shrine.
- Ancient Hero’s Vambraces: On the road near the Drunken Bear Inn, complete “Xanthe’s Transports: When Two Dogs…”

In line with his former job, Pieter’s Garb is the best armor to boost your swordmastery. The massive upgrade to human health and human health restoration is also great, but no other armor piece offers better critical hit chance and critical damage. If you don’t want to go for a critical build, though, Bakir’s Armour is an excellent alternative; it’ll ensure you never run out of stamina.
Whichever chestpiece you prefer, the Mercenary Armor pieces are the best choice to complete your swordmastery build. Beware that you’ll have to be adept at blocking to make good use of the Mercenary’s Vambraces. If you aren’t going for a critical hit build, you can always swap the Mercenary’s Boots for the Enhanced Boots of the Arbiter, which offers more HP and stamina instead.
Here’s where you’ll find the best melee armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker:
- Pieter’s Garb: In a chest on top of a cliff, follow “Buried Past” to get it (Volk’s quest).
- Bakir’s Armour: Defeat Bakir in the Lunar Manor and loot his body.
- Mercenary’s Greaves: Sold by the Altenmarket armorer in Svartrau City.
- Mercenary’s Boots: Sold by the armorer in the manumit hideout in Svartrau City (reach level 4 infamy first).
- Enhanced Boots of the Arbiter: Complete “A Bulwark Against Darkness.” See the “best overall armor set” section above.
- Mercenary’s Vambraces: Sold by the armorer in Tantari.
