Miette Hot Springs is one of Alberta’s most unique experiences, inviting guests to take a dip in the natural mountain water and take advantage of the stunning panoramic views of the province.
Located in Alberta’s Jasper National Park, Miette Hot Springs is open from May to October to offer one of Jasper’s best things to do. With four pools filled with luxurious water, two freezing cold and two steaming hot, this spot is perfect for both relaxation and rejuvenation.
Here, according to Parks Canada, natural hot springs water flows from the mountain at 54°C, only to be cooled down to a reasonable 40°C in the pools for everyone to enjoy. Parks Canada also notes that these hot springs happen to be the hottest of all the hot springs located in the Canadian Rockies
What to know before visiting Miette Hot Springs
When are Miette Hot Springs open?
As of today, Sept. 18, Miette Hot Springs are open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. up until Monday, Oct. 12, when the hot springs will be closed for the season until May 2027.
What’s the best way to get there?
There is no public transit to these hot springs; you will have to take a car or a tour.
For exact directions, Parks Canada has created a detailed visual map, as well as written instructions, on how to get to the hot springs.
The Parks Canada website warns that the Miette Road is narrow and winding. Trailers and large motorhomes will not be permitted past Miette Campground. Those with either can find trailer drop-off at the Lower Mine Trail Parking lot.
Do I need a Parks Pass to visit the hot springs?
All people intending to go to Miette Hot Springs will require a park pass (either a day pass or Parks Canada Discovery Pass will work) to visit.
These park passes are available for purchase at park entry gates, online, and at Miette Hot Springs.
Do the hot springs take reservations?
Reservations, as well as pre-booked tickets, are not available at Miette Hot Springs. Entry is first-come, first-served, meaning you may have to wait in line for entry if the facility has reached capacity.
Is there anywhere I can store my belongings while I am in the hot springs?
There are lockers available on-site for all visitors, and locker rentals are included with admission.
Do I need to bring my own towel?
You do not need to bring your own towel. Towels are available for rent, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you’d like.
Can I bring food or drinks onto the pool deck?
According to Parks Canada, food and (non-alcoholic) beverages in unbreakable metal or plastic containers may be consumed in designated areas on the pool deck. Water in an unbreakable drink container is not only permitted on the pool deck, but encouraged.
There are no alcoholic beverages permitted on-site. There is also no food permitted in change rooms, hallways or washrooms.
How much does it cost?
There are two pass options available: a single entry pass and a day pass. Ticket purchases are in person only, with no online purchasing options available.
Single entry tickets will allow you to enter the hot springs once. This pass will cost $19.75 for adults (ages 18 to 64) and $17.25 for youth (ages three to 17) and seniors (ages 65 and over).
Day passes will allow visitors to enter and exit the hot springs multiple times in one day. This pass is $28.75 for adults, $25 for youth and seniors.
Family passes are also available ($64.25 for single entry, $92.50 for a day pass) and include any combination of four family members, including:
- two adults and two youths
- one adult and three youths
- two seniors and two youths
- one senior, one adult, and two youths
- four youths (siblings)
When purchasing a family pass, keep in mind there is a maximum of two people aged 18 or older allowed in the combination of four.
Children under three are free to enter.
