360 Hotel opened in South Iceland, one hour from Reykjavík and 15 minutes from Selfoss. Two Icelandic families created and own the hotel.
The property has 31 individually designed rooms and suites. Accommodations include Terrace Rooms starting at 290 square feet, Junior Queen rooms with two queen beds starting at 505 square feet, connecting-room options and the 1,076-square-foot 360 Suite. The suite has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and panoramic views. Rooms have Jensen beds and mattresses, heated floors and nightly turndown service.
Each guestroom includes a poster inspired by Rafskinna, an electrically operated display Gunnar Bachmann created for a Reykjavík shop window in 1932. The display used automatically turning pages illustrated by Icelandic artists. Bachmann was the grandfather of one of the hotel’s owners.
Interior designer Guðbjörg Anna Árnadóttir, the sister of one of the owners, developed the hotel’s design. Design elements include timber paneling inspired by older Icelandic buildings and settlements, along with turf, fireplaces, natural materials, color and textured finishes. Some rooms include Moroccan wool rugs made by women artisans near the Atlas Mountains using patterns designed by Árnadóttir.
Guestrooms do not have televisions. The hotel has a cinema for guests who want to watch films. Books and games, including board games, backgammon and mahjong, are available throughout the property.
Hnaus Restaurant has 80 seats and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Executive Chef Hinrik Örn Lárusson, Icelandic Chef of the Year 2024, leads the restaurant. The menu uses local, seasonal ingredients, including dairy from Gunnbjarnarholt and lamb from neighboring farms. Hnaus, the Icelandic word for “mound,” refers to the land where the hotel is located.
The restaurant offers chef’s table dinners, private and bespoke experiences, and gourmet picnics for guests traveling in South Iceland. Handmade pottery at Hnaus comes from an Icelandic foundation that teaches pottery skills to women in Sierra Leone and helps them sell their work.
The hotel’s 3,767-square-foot wellness area includes two geothermal hot pools supplied with water from a nearby farm, two saunas, including an infrared sauna, cold plunge facilities, treatment rooms and relaxation spaces. A gym and yoga studio are also available.
The hotel offers a Northern Lights Wake Up Service. Hotel staff monitor conditions and notify guests if the aurora appears.
Rates are dynamic and seasonal, with accommodations starting at US$1,050 per night.
