Georgia Nicolson is officially getting ready to make her small-screen return. What’s on Netflix can exclusively reveal that the long-rumored TV reboot of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging has landed at Netflix, with production on a pilot episode kicking off in the UK this October.
Based on the late Louise Rennison’s internationally bestselling, multimillion-copy book series The Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, the franchise was famously adapted into the cult classic 2008 British teen comedy film starring Georgia Groome and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Now, nearly two decades later, the iconic YA property is being developed for television, and if the summer casting calls are anything to go by, the original 1999 book’s uncensored title is Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, though we understand Netflix may still use the more PG title.
Rumors of an adaptation reached a fever pitch after acclaimed UK casting director Rachel Sheridan (One Day, Amandaland, Riot Women) published an open casting call seeking fresh talent to play Georgia and the rest of the Ace Gang. The announcement sparked an immediate frenzy across social media, forcing the casting agency to prematurely close applications after being overwhelmed by submissions. While the listing cryptically teased a project for a “major streaming platform,” we can now confirm that streamer is Netflix.
Who is behind Netflix’s ‘Angus, Thongs’ pilot?
The pilot is being co-produced by Oscar- and Emmy-winning UK independent studio Rise Films (Plebs, The Invisible War) alongside global production studio Fifth Season (Severance, Tokyo Vice).
Netflix has assembled a stellar creative team to adapt Georgia’s chaotic diary entries:
- Writer & Producer: Monica Heisey, the acclaimed author (Really Good, Actually) and comedy writer whose credits include Schitt’s Creek, Workin’ Moms, and Smothered.
- Director: Jim O’Hanlon, the veteran British comedy and drama director behind Catastrophe, Trying, and The Punisher.
- Producer: Jon Jennings (Breeders, Fugitive)
- Executive Producer: Sam Leifer (Plebs, How to Build a Girl)
- Casting Director: Rachel Sheridan (One Day, Such Brave Girls, Riot Women).
What is the plot of the new series?
For those unfamiliar with the book, here’s a rundown on what you can expect:
Fourteen-year-old Georgia Nicolson is convinced that being a teenager is the most complicated—and unfair—thing imaginable. While desperately trying to improve her appearance, survive school, and maintain her status among her friends, Georgia becomes obsessed with the arrival of a handsome new boy, Robbie, whom she immediately decides is the love of her life.”
“Unfortunately, Robbie seems far more interested in other girls than in Georgia. As Georgia schemes to win him over, she navigates jealous friends, embarrassing family members, disastrous dates, school gossip, and her own tendency to turn every minor crisis into a catastrophe. Her attempts to appear sophisticated frequently backfire, leaving her caught between childish insecurities and an increasingly adult desire for romance and independence.
The Search for the New “Ace Gang”
Rather than turning solely to established young actors, the production launched an open, agent-free casting call across the United Kingdom for its lead teen roles.
The flyer, put on Instagram back on July 3rd, revealed several intriguing details regarding the tone and requirements of the reboot:
- Age Requirements: The team sought actors capable of playing 15–16 years old, but specified that all applicants must be 18+ (turned 18 by April 30, 2027). The listing noted that this was strictly due to “mature themes, adult content, and the working hour requirements of this production,” indicating that Netflix will not shy away from the rowdier, uncensored comedy found in the books.
- Open Call & Inclusivity: The notice was open to all backgrounds, ethnicities, and genders, requiring no prior professional acting experience—just a strong knack for comedy.
- Overwhelming Demand: The response was so massive that Rachel Sheridan Casting had to issue an emergency update shutting the submission window early:
We have been genuinely overwhelmed (in the best way) by how many of you have applied… Because we have now received so many brilliant submissions, we sadly have to close applications earlier than planned, so we can give everyone who has already applied the time and attention they deserve.

Production Timeline & Next Steps
Filming on the pilot episode officially takes place in October 2026 in the United Kingdom.
Because the project is currently at the pilot stage, Netflix will review the completed episode to evaluate tone, chemistry, and test feedback before committing to a full series order. Should Netflix give the green light, filming for the remainder of the series is targeted between May and October 2027, pointing toward a possible premiere in 2028.
We’ll keep you updated as soon as official casting announcements and further production details break.
