If you haven’t heard of Liquidation Marie yet, you’re probably paying way too much for your groceries.
The low-cost Quebec grocery chain, already known for locations in Saint-Zotique, Mascouche, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, and Saint-Jérôme, recently opened its first Montreal location in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
Now, Laval is next. Set to open in October 2025, the Laval location will be the brand’s largest yet, taking shape in the Sainte-Rose neighbourhood near major highways.
As reported by Narcity Québec, the Laval opening is part of Liquidation Marie’s broader expansion across the province. Founded by Marie-Ève Breton, the grocery chain has gone viral for its ultra-low prices, rotating inventory model, and no-frills approach — and it’s quickly becoming a favourite for Quebecers looking to save without sacrificing quality.
Why is Liquidation Marie so cheap?
Unlike traditional grocery stores, Liquidation Marie’s inventory is based on opportunistic buying: surplus stock, labeling errors, odd packaging formats, and even items near or just past their best-before date — all vetted under strict MAPAQ safety standards.
As a result, people can find just about anything at ridiculously low prices, from fruits and veggies to cheese, cereal, canned goods, frozen meat, and more. In an interview with Narcity Québec, Breton revealed that starting in June, milk will be sold at the lowest price legally allowed in Quebec — year-round — in all of her stores.
The entrepreneur’s model relies on volume, not high margins. “I sell items at the lowest price I can afford, so they move fast,” she said. “I focus on quantity, not profit per item.”
Breton also emphasizes the importance of educating customers about best-before dates. “A product isn’t unsafe just because the freshness date has passed,” she explained. “It’s often sealed and still good for months, sometimes years.”
Laval isn’t the only one getting a new store
Repentigny will be getting its own Liquidation Marie even sooner, with a new 5,000-square-foot location expected to open by mid-June 2025 at 251 boulevard Brien.
Meanwhile, the Valleyfield branch is moving into a space four times larger by the end of summer to keep up with demand.
As for future plans? Breton says she regularly receives requests from across the province, but for now, Laval and Repentigny are the only confirmed new openings for 2025.
