Who’s ready for another exciting street festival? Now in its 48th year, the two-day Powell Street Festival in Vancouver has since expanded to become one of the largest and longest-running community arts festivals in the country, and there’s plenty to look forward to this year.
Best of all? It’s completely free to attend!
The festival is all about celebrating the best of Japanese-Canadian culture in the historic ‘Paueru Gai’ neighbourhood, bringing the community together for a range of performances, exhibitions, and food booths – ranging from Coconama Chocolate to Teriyaki Boys.
Sample some incredible food, enjoy live music, dance, film, visual and martial arts, an amateur sumo tournament, or take part in children’s activities and walking tours of the area’s history.

There are a few things to check out if you decide to visit. Oppenheimer Park will be where most of the action is, with live performances, marketplace and food booths, and other fun activities planned. However, we definitely think a stroll down Alexander Street is a must as well, to check out all the local businesses that are signing on for the weekend.
This year’s Powell Street Festival will take place on Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 4th. So if you’re looking for some long weekend plans to make, this is it!
Mark your calendars, Vancouver!
