A giant pig structure is coming to this Ontario city

30 July 20262 Mins Read

A whimsical structure is taking shape in Vaughan, and before long, it’ll be the pièce de résistance of a massive new park currently under development.

Just steps from the subway station of the same name, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is a proposed 140-acre mixed-use area featuring office towers, residential buildings, shops, restaurants, and green space.

At the heart of it all is the 10-acre Central Park, which is currently under construction and preparing to welcome a rather pork-tacular new attraction.

Named Little Flying Pig, the interactive structure is being assembled by acclaimed landscape architecture firm CCxA, the Montreal-based team behind Toronto’s beloved dog fountain at Berczy Park.

The firm shared photos in a now-deleted Instagram post, including a peek inside the massive pig-shaped structure, which kids (and perhaps some curious adults) will be able to climb inside once it’s finally installed.

CCxA designed the pink wooden pig in collaboration with award-winning Ontario company Earthscape Playgrounds, which has been creating custom playgrounds and imaginative public spaces since 2010.

This is one piggy that isn’t staying home. It’s expected to land as part of the first phase of Vaughan’s new Central Park, although no timelines have been confirmed.

It’s the latest in a growing list of eye-catching park projects popping up across the GTA. Toronto’s Biidaasige Park recently unveiled its latest expansion, the City opened a new park named after Honest Ed’s, and there’s even a proposal to transform the site of a former KFC-Taco Bell into a beautiful new public park, too.
