A heartfelt Dia de los Muertos celebration is happening in Toronto next month

6 October 20252 Mins Read

Every November, marigolds bloom and altars are adorned with photos, candles and memories. Mexico’s annual Dia de los Muertos reminds us that death isn’t an ending but rather a celebration of life and love. Toronto’s beloved Evergreen Brick Works is hosting its own celebration, the Good Mourning Festival, welcoming all to embrace the same spirit.

Rooted in the traditions of Mexican culture, Dia de los Muertos honours loved ones who’ve passed away through colour, music, food and togetherness.

What to expect

Taking place on Nov. 1 and 2, 2025, inside the Evergreen Brick Works grounds, the Good Mourning Festival builds on that legacy. They have created a space where people from all walks of life can come together to reclaim mourning as something beautiful.

Over two days, festival-goers can explore art installations, take part in creative workshops, visit local vendors, and enjoy delicious food and guided walks.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m., along with the food court. So get ready to take part in the celebrations and eat some mouthwatering bites.

“The Good Mourning Festival is more than an event – it’s a chance for people to embrace the full spectrum of human emotion in our public spaces,” shares organizers.

In a society that often keeps grief behind closed doors, this event welcomes everyone to feel and connect together.

So whether you’re coming to learn about the traditions or simply share space with others, this Dia de los Muertos experience is worth every moment.

When: Nov. 1 and 2, 2025
Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Evergreen Brick Works – 550 Bayview Ave.
Cost: Free
