A Huge Yayoi Kusama Retrospective is Now Open in Amsterdam, Canada Reviews

18 September 20262 Mins Read

On August 14, the art world lost a legend. Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, known for her polka dots, large-scale pumpkin sculptures and infinity mirror rooms, passed away at the age of 97.

There are plenty of spots to see Kusama’s work, from outdoor sculptures in London to permanent exhibitions in museums in the US and Japan. But for a complete immersion in the artist’s work, Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum has just opened a major exhibition tracing Kusama’s legacy across seven decades.

What to expect from Amsterdam’s Yayoi Kusama exhibition

This is the last exhibition that Kusama worked on before passing away in August, according to Artnet. Over 300 works are on display, including two of Kusama’s Insta-famous Infinity Mirror Rooms and a handful of polka-dot pumpkins. Visitors will also be given an insight into the artist’s early work – childhood drawings, fashion items, collages – alongside paintings created right at the end of her life.

Dates and opening hours

The exhibition will be on at the Stedelijk from September 11, 2026 until January 17, 2027. The museum is open from 10am-6pm daily, with occasional 9am openings.

Tickets

All visitors must book a time slot on the Stedelijk’s website, with a standard adult ticket priced at €32.50. The Infinity Mirror Rooms are included in the ticket price, but the museum advises visitors to expect to queue.
