A lush forest surrounds a sandy beach in the Alberta Rocky Mountains

26 May 20252 Mins Read

In the winter, Wild Rose Country’s best feature is the snow-capped mountains, but come summertime, it’s all about the fresh air and bright blue water.

One of the most magical spots to go swimming and hang out in the sand? Lake Annette in Jasper National Park.

An Alberta beauty

Located in the Rocky Mountains, Lake Annette has a stunning view, cooking shelters, metal fire rings, and most importantly, a beautiful Alberta beach.

Whether you’re looking to enjoy a tranquil mid-morning getaway or have an afternoon picnic, this gorgeous destination is definitely one that should be on your hit list this sunny season.

Here, those who are brave enough can take a chilly dip in the water, then get a tan on the shoreline.

While you won’t be able to take cover under the shade of a palm tree, you will feel as though you’re miles away from home, and there’s really nothing better than that, especially after a long week of work.

Want to check it out?

In addition to a bathing suit and a cooler, make sure to bring a pair of comfortable shoes.

Before or after you are done lounging, you can also take a 5.7-kilometre hike (one way) through the subalpine forest that surrounds the area. After all, “it’s the perfect prelude for a serene experience”, according to Parks Canada.

To kick things off, you’ll have to make your way to the Paradise Valley Trailhead and stretch your legs, as it’s estimated to take about four hours to complete.

If you’d like to visit when temperatures rise, arrive early and bring a packed car.

Lake Annette shares a parking lot with another incredible spot, Lake Edith, and it only has 164 spaces.

The busiest times are usually between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., but it’s still worth the trip. Just be prepared.

It’s going to be a spicy one, and there are few better places to cool off this year.

Happy swimming, and bring snacks. Maybe we’ll see you out there!

Where: Lake Annette Rd., Jasper, Alta.
