A massive international grocery store is coming to the GTA and here’s what to know

27 May 20262 Mins Read

A giant new international grocery store is coming to the Greater Toronto Area, and it sure doesn’t look like your typical supermarket stroll.

Food World Plus is set to open a massive new 176,000-square-foot store in Mississauga, offering foods from around the world, including the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South and East Asia, all under one roof.

To give you a better sense of just how big this supermarket will be, it will have a whopping 1,100 parking spots outside.

There will be an in-store butcher counter offering both Halal and Kosher options, along with plans for what the grocer calls “the largest seafood, meat and deli departments in the GTA.” In a region already full of big international supermarkets, this is a pretty bold claim.

If you’ve ever shopped at places like Nations Fresh Foods in the Stockyards, then you already know the GTA is no stranger to monumental multicultural grocers, but this one plans to scale the concept even further.

On Tuesday, May 26, Food World Plus announced it plans to introduce a fresh juice and sushi bar, a cafe serving hot breakfast, and a gluten-free dessert parlour. A considerable health and beauty section with Korean skincare products is also featured in the plans.

One of the most alluring features is the planned 1,000-foot candy-and-chocolate aisle, which may or may not fast-track you to booking a dentist appointment (unapologetically, of course).

There is no official opening date just yet for Food World Plus, but it’s worth keeping an eye on its website and Instagram for updates. When it does open, it will only be a 15-minute walk from the Britannia Stop on the Hazel McCallion LRT line (though the rail route likely won’t open until 2028).

If you’re located in Toronto and not quite up for trekking it that far for global groceries, you can always wait until T&T Supermarket opens its 66,000-square-foot location in the RioCan Empress shopping centre later this year.

Food World Plus will be located at 50 Matheson Blvd. E., Mississauga, Ont.
