A music and arts festival celebrating African heritage is coming to North Vancouver this weekend

22 July 20252 Mins Read

North Vancouver’s Afro Music & Arts Festival is coming up this weekend, offering visitors the chance to dive into the community’s rich African heritage. On Sunday, July 27, 2025, festival-goers can enjoy a full day of free live music, dance, and visual arts—both traditional and contemporary—all centred at the Shipyards.

According to organizers, this year’s theme, “Afro Echoes of the Renaissance: Reclaiming Roots, Honouring Legacies,” speaks to the spirit of cultural regeneration and unity. The festival invites attendees of all backgrounds to discover and take part in the beauty and strength of the African diaspora.

The festival is organized by local non-profit Great Lakes Networking Society of B.C., which works to meet community needs and advance equity, inclusion, and justice through arts programming, in addition to advocacy work.

“Originally founded in 2010 as the Africa Great Lakes Networking Foundation, the organization evolved beyond its initial networking model and, in 2018, adopted its current name to reflect a broader mission of community empowerment and systems change,” explains the group on its website.

Attendees can look forward to live performances by African and Afro-diasporic singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and DJs.

The free-to-enter cultural festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. this Sunday, so mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details as they come.

When: Sunday, July 27, 2025
Time: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: 19 Wallace Mews, North Vancouver
Cost: Free admission
