A new car-free summer series is coming to Vancouver’s most historic neighbourhood

26 May 20252 Mins Read

Gastown is Vancouver’s most historic neighbourhood, and it truly comes alive every summer with a myriad of free festivities and community events. Starting next month, there will be even more to look forward to at Gastown Sunday Set, a new summer series thanks in part to the success of the Water Street Pedestrian Pilot.

Inspired by global pedestrian-first movements like Paris Respire, the new car-free series will transform the cobblestone streets of Gastown into a gathering spot with exciting activations like live DJ sets, an outdoor flower market, an open-air art crawl, and plenty of expanded patios.

“Gastown has always been a heartbeat of art, music, cuisine and creativity, and now, we’re channelling that vibrant spirit into the streets every Sunday with the Gastown Sunday Set event series,” says Elise Yurkowski, director of operations for Gastown BIA. “These weekly activations invite everyone to slow down, discover, and reconnect with the culture, people and the businesses that make Gastown unlike anywhere else.”

Gastown Sunday Set will run for 12 consecutive Sundays, starting June 15, 2025, and running until Aug. 31, 2025.

Here are all the free festivities you can enjoy at Gastown Sunday Set:

  • Streetside Sessions – Coffee Party: locally roasted coffee, DJ sets, and exclusive café offerings – June 15, July 27, and Aug. 31, 2025
  • Open Air Atelier – Live Art Battles: open-air art crawl and street performances – June 22, July 13, and Aug. 3, 2025
  • Gastown in Bloom – Flower Market: outdoor flower market and botanical promenade with local florists – June 29, July 20, and Aug. 17, 2025
  • Unscripted Sunday – Letting Water Street Breathe: relaxed, informal activations – July 6, Aug. 10, and Aug. 27, 2025

So mark your calendars, and stay tuned for more summer fun to come.

When: Sundays from June 15 to Aug. 31, 2025
Where: Water Street in Gastown
Cost: Free admission
