A new era of live music is coming to Calgary and here’s how

30 August 20252 Mins Read

Head’s up, Calgary! Have you heard there’s going to be a new live music venue in town?

The Arrowhead is Calgary’s latest live music venue, promising a “new era” for concerts and events.

It’s a welcome addition to a city known for its annual bustling rodeo party and an emerging live music scene.

What we know

Formerly known as The Back Alley, The Arrowhead is a complete rebrand accompanied by an impressive renovation of its 16,000 square foot space.

The renovations will include brand-new sound and lighting systems, as well as an updated venue ambiance.

With the venue’s stage and lights getting a serious refresh, you know photos from inside are bound to look picturesque.

Centrally located at 4630 Macleod Trl., The Arrowhead will be easily accessible by car and the city transit system. It’ll share proximity to Ranchman’s and Cowboys, making it the perfect in-between hangout for concert-goers.

Temporary closure

The Back Alley announced its closure in a quiet shutdown this April. But with a reopening announced for sometime this fall, the venue is turning to a new page in its 25-year history.

The venue initially closed in 2013, reopening in December 2019, before it was forced to close its doors again during the 2020 pandemic.

In Calgary, the pandemic threatened venues like Dickens and The Palomino, which rely on foot traffic from local live music shows to stay alive.

With the relocation of The Blues Can, formerly in Inglewood, and the closure of other small downtown venues, including The Nite Owl, over the past decade, the arrival of a new music venue in Calgary is great news for local musicians and touring acts alike.

A new era of live music in Calgary is just getting started. How excited are we?
