A new tufting studio is open in Edmonton and offering beginner-friendly lessons

14 January 20263 Mins Read

There’s a new spot for all the creatives and artsy folk in Edmonton to visit.

Tuft Time Studio is Edmonton’s newest tufting studio, offering a haven for artists, crafters and anyone curious about the meditative art of tufting and fibre arts. For ages 16 and up, you can experience a new form of art and create your own craft to take home with you.

Not sure what tufting is? Don’t worry, we’ll give you the run-down.

What to expect

Tufting is a textile technique where you push yarn through a base of fabric to create a design for a carpet, rug, or wall hanging. This technique uses tools like a tufting gun, which forcefully pushes the yarn through the fabric in order to create the finished piece.

At Tuft Time Studio, you’ll be taking control of the tufting gun and creating your piece yourself. It’s perfect for beginners, as expert guidance will be there to follow you each step of the way.

First, you book your session, which will include all the materials and tools, the frame to tuft on, the use of tufting guns, and guidance from instructors. You can book private sessions for your group or join a session with strangers. Either way, you’re going to have a great time.

Once you’ve booked, you can get ready to create. You can choose your image and send it to the studio to confirm the availability of supplies. Then, once it’s confirmed, you can head on in.

Each session is about four to five hours long, giving enough time to tuft your entire piece from start to finish, allowing you to take it home the same day! If you’re not finished creating within your allotted time, a second-day session can be booked to continue working on your rug, free of charge.

Pricing starts at $98 for a 16-by-16-inch creation. If that’s not big enough, it goes up to 24-by-24-inch for $128.

Are you ready to start tufting? Book your appointment with haste, as sessions are already booking up quickly. Tuft Time Studio is ready to teach, so let’s hope you’re ready to learn.

Where: 9851 70th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $98+
