A new Uber alternative just launched in Montreal and it’s offering 50% off rides

18 June 20252 Mins Read

People in Montreal now have another option for getting around town, and it comes with a sweet launch deal.

Lyft officially rolled into Montreal and Quebec City on June 17, stepping into the rideshare space to directly compete with Uber. To celebrate the launch, the company is offering 50% off your first five rides (up to $10 per trip) if you sign up with the promo code QUEBEC — valid for 14 days after you join.

Founded in San Francisco in 2012 by Logan Green and John Zimmer, Lyft quickly grew into one of Uber’s main rivals in North America. It now serves riders and drivers in more than 10 major Canadian cities, including Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. Quebec was one of the last holdouts — until now.

While Lyft is new to the province’s rideshare scene, it’s already been active in other areas. The company provides the tech that powers BIXI in Montreal and àVélo in Quebec City. It also has local teams based in Montreal and Longueuil, which helped tailor the app experience for Quebec users.

Booking a ride works just like Uber — open the app, choose your ride type, set a destination, and get matched with a driver. In addition to Montreal and Quebec City, Lyft says it will soon launch in Laval, Longueuil, Gatineau, Sherbrooke, Trois‑Rivières, and Saguenay.

“Getting around Quebec just got a lot easier,” said Audrey Liu, Lyft’s EVP of Rider Experience and Community Safety, in a press release. “Whether it’s a trip to the market, a visit with family, or discovering a hidden gem in the city, Lyft is available to help you get there.”

The company also reports that rideshare use in Canada grew more than 50% year-over-year in early 2025.
