A Power Rangers legend returns for one final posthumous role

Well Go USA Entertainment has confirmed that its superhero action film Legend of the White Dragon will be released in theaters on Aug. 28. This movie will be of note to Power Rangers fans, as it features the final performance from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers‘ Jason David Frank.

Co-directed by Aaron and Sean Schoenke, Legend of the White Dragon is a film about its titular superhero, who was disgraced by the public after a brutal battle but comes out of hiding to save his city again. Jason David Frank portrays White Dragon, who is clearly inspired by the White Ranger incarnation of Tommy Oliver, the character Frank portrayed in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and other Power Rangers media. The movie was successfully crowdfunded in 2020, but had yet to receive a theatrical release.

In 2022, Jason David Frank died by suicide, so Legend of the White Dragon will be his final film role. In a press release, Well Go USA Entertainment’s CEO, Doris Pfardrescher, says the film “not only delivers the thrilling sci-fi action fans crave, but also celebrates the life and legacy of Jason David Frank.” As such, it’s quite fitting that Legend of the White Dragon should come out on National Power Rangers Day.

Jason David Frank’s daughter, Jenna Frank, will also appear in the film alongside other Power Rangers alumni like Jason Faunt, Ciara Hanna, and Cerina Vincent. Rachele Brooke Smith, Andrew Bachelor, David Ramsey, Mark Dacascos, Aaron Schoenke, and Michael Madsen (who will also appear posthumously) round out the cast.
