A vibrant sunflower festival with over 20 varieties just bloomed in Metro Vancouver

4 August 20263 Mins Read

If sunflower season is your favourite time of year, it’s time to make your way to Richmond Country Farms for its beloved annual Sunflower Festival.

As of Aug. 2, the farm has transformed into a vibrant celebration with over 20 different sunflower varieties, each with their own distinct characteristics. Visitors can wander the fields of gold and yellow, which include popular varieties like the Teddy Bear sunflowers.

As always, there will be plenty of photo opportunities to capture your visit and a little bit of summer magic.

There will also be tons of dahlias and wildflowers in bloom for the duration of the festival, according to Richmond Country Farms.

Beyond the rows and rows of flowers, visitors can hop on a wagon ride, board the CP Huntington Train, and check out an array of local food trucks and vendors. With adorable farm animals to meet, it’s the perfect way for the whole family to spend some quality time together before summer nears its end.

So long as they’re leashed and well-behaved, pets are also welcome at the festival.

How much does it cost to check out the festival?

The Sunflower Festival soft opened on Aug. 2, and now operates from noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Note that last entry is at 7 p.m., with the final wagon ride back to the parking lot before dusk.

General admission is priced at $14 to $17 per person (aged 13+), depending on which day of the week you visit. Children and seniors receive entry for $12 per person.

Although advance tickets are not required, you can purchase them online or in person.

Want to pick up some fresh fruits and veggies straight from the farm? Make sure to stop by the Richmond Country Farms Market before you head out after your day of gallavanting through the sunflower fields. Here, you’ll find all kinds of seasonal produce as well as freshly-baked pies, jams, preserves, honey, snacks, plants, decor, and fresh-cut flowers for your home.

Basically, it’s the ideal spot to cap off the festivities and bring a bit of the experience home with you.

The market is located at the front of the property with plenty of parking and a big red barn that’s hard to miss.

Happy sunflower season, Vancouver!
