A waterfront community with 18 km of canals is the ‘Venice of Ontario’

7 May 20252 Mins Read

You don’t have to leave Ontario to experience stunning canals like you would see in Venice, Italy! Lagoon City, located along the eastern shore of Lake Simcoe, is less than two hours by car from Toronto but will feel like a European escape.

When I visited the community last year, I was surprised to see the whopping 18 km of canals, and that I had never heard of this gorgeous spot before.

According to Orillia Tourism, “known as the Venice of Ontario, Lagoon City offers a quiet escape from the urban world.” If you’re living in Toronto, you know that a quiet escape is sometimes very needed.

Whether you’re looking for adventure or just to relax, if you’re visiting, you’re going to want to spend some time on the water.

Lake Country Adventures offers a variety of watercrafts to rent, from jet skis to pontoon boats. Rentals are available by the hour, day, or week.

For visitors looking to dip their toes in the water, relax and take in the view, Lagoon City Beach has a front-row seat to expansive Lake Simcoe with a sandy beach to enjoy and park facilities.

You don’t have to make your stop in this adorable town just a day trip, stay a while. Lagoon City Pier One Resort is right on the water and ready to welcome guests for an overnight visit. The resort also has a restaurant, Pier One Bistro & Bar, with views of the water, one of the best places to catch a sunset. If you’re stopping by, be sure to try to fish and chips or fish tacos.

The resort also has a pool and spa, as well as kayak and bike rentals.

This is a great place to take a break from the city, so what are you waiting for? Lagoon City is calling, Ontario.
