GlobalData reports that the influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on team collaboration and communication platforms continues to grow, according to insights from the recent Enterprise Connect 2025 event. Discussions at the event revealed that AI has become a central feature in many competitors’ platforms.
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly contributed to the ascent of team collaboration and communication platforms. In response, competitors engaged in rounds of feature wars, adding successive enhancements to their platforms. This competition eventually cooled, leading to an interoperability truce between rival platforms. These competitors are digging deep into AI technology, integrating AI features across their platforms.
The most discussed topic at this year’s event was Agentic AI. This advanced form of AI goes beyond merely generating content. It features autonomous agents that can perform tasks independently on behalf of users. These tasks range from mundane to complex, demonstrating the advanced capacity of this AI type.
Debuted in the second half of 2024, Agentic AI is already viewed as the next significant phase of AI. It can act autonomously, make decisions, and adjust its approach based on new information or changing circumstances. Many competitors are now leveraging Agentic AI in various forms.
However, competitors’ overall AI initiatives shed light on two interesting points. First, while competitors have been busy integrating AI capabilities into their platforms, they have struggled to articulate what differentiates their AI from others. Each competitor must craft a compelling message explaining why customers should choose their platform over others.
Second, while competitors tout their vast array of AI features, they are less vocal about customer support. They must better outline the programs and resources they have in place to facilitate customer adoption of their AI features.
