Expedia has introduced a new feature, Expedia Trip Matching, which utilizes artificial intelligence to convert Instagram Reels into bookable travel itineraries.

Expedia has launched a unique tool, Expedia Trip Matching, that allows users to create a travel itinerary based on an Instagram Reel and proceed to book it directly via Expedia. This innovative feature enables travelers to share any publicly accessible travel-related Reel with Expedia and receive personalized itineraries, destination suggestions, and travel tips based on the video content.

This new tool’s underlying technology is artificial intelligence. Tapping into AI capabilities, Expedia Trip Matching transforms social media inspiration into tangible travel plans, simplifying the booking process through Instagram.

The tool’s operation is straightforward. Users browsing Instagram can share a Reel featuring a destination or experience they find interesting with Expedia. The platform then uses AI to generate personalized travel recommendations, itineraries, and trip-planning resources based on the video’s content. Once prepared, travelers can review and book directly through the customized itinerary, seamlessly integrating social media discovery with real-world booking.

Expedia Trip Matching is currently available for beta access, and its full-scale availability for U.S. travelers is anticipated in the coming weeks. This initiative marks Expedia as the first online travel agency to incorporate real-time, AI-powered travel planning directly into Instagram, reflecting the company’s commitment to innovation and catering to the preferences of the new generation of inspired, mobile, and social-first travelers.

This move by Expedia highlights the increasing influence of social media on various industries, especially travel and tourism.
