New flight destination incoming! Air Transat has announced new non-stop flights from two Canadian cities to this popular South American hotspot starting this winter — just in time to escape the cold.
If you’ve been itching for a good vacation, make sure Rio de Janeiro is on your radar. The Canadian-based airline will begin non-stop service from Toronto and Montreal straight to the Brazilian city in February 2026.
As of this winter, Air Transat will operate a total of 14 new routes from its Canadian gateways. This includes several new destinations and the extension of certain transatlantic services.

From Toronto
Planning on leaving from Toronto’s Pearson Airport? You can expect flights twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This is in addition to Toronto’s new flights from Georgetown (Guyana), Medellín, and Istanbul in partnership with Turkish Airlines.
From Montreal
Montreal will see the non-stop service operate once a week, on Thursdays. Travellers from here will enjoy non-stop access to Rio de Janeiro, Guadalajara, Valencia, Bordeaux and Madrid.
“This enriched winter schedule marks an important milestone in the evolution of our network,” said Sebastian Ponce, Air Transat’s chief revenue officer.
“By targeting markets we have never served before, we are pursuing a clear diversification strategy toward destinations that Canadians are eager to explore, supported by growing connectivity through our expanding network of partners.”
