Alberta’s only Nordic spa is just south of Calgary and totally technology-free

11 February 20263 Mins Read

Just south of Calgary, there’s a huge Nordic spa and wellness centre just awaiting you.

Kananaskis Nordic Spa is located in Kananaskis Village, about a 45-minute drive south of Calgary. It is the ultimate self-care destination, setting the standard for relaxation and wellness in Alberta. It’s surrounded by stunning mountain peaks and provides a variety of hydrotherapy options as well as massages and more.

If you’re looking for the perfect getaway to recoup and relax, this is definitely the spot you need to check out.

What to expect

No prior experience or skill set is required for doing a circuit at this Nordic spa; you can just jump right in.

The facility takes over 50,000 square feet, with five outdoor pools, six saunas and steam cabins, eight massage treatment rooms, an exfoliation cabin, and outdoor fire pits and seating to stay warm and relax.

This Nordic spa focuses on hydrotherapy, and it suggests following the hydrotherapy circuit three to four times. Using a combination of the hot and cold pools allows for the full benefits of hydrotherapy.

Another important thing to note: Kananaskis Nordic Spa does not allow cellphones in the facility, encouraging people to keep them inside lockers. The facility itself is also 18 and above, with no children allowed for ultimate relaxation.

There’s also the Two Trees Bistro, for putting fuel right back into your body. The Two Trees Bistro serves up healthy dishes and drinks designed to complement and enhance your healing session. Canadian-sourced sharing platters, small plates, wines, craft beers, herbal teas, and espresso drinks are what they specialize in. This bistro also acts as a social hub within the relaxing calm of the spa.

The spa is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, with massage therapy being available from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Hydrotherapy starts at $145 for full-day access, and $129 for an evening soak. Massages start around $285 for relaxation, deep tissue, and more.

If you’re ready to take a dip and fall into absolute bliss, you can book in advance for whenever you can make the trip. Get ready to experience paradise right in the mountains.

Where: 1 Centennial Dr., Kananaskis Village, Alta.
