All 30 Netflix Series Canceled In 2025

That’s 2025 in the books. As with any year, we see lots of renewals, but we’ve seen significant cancellations from Netflix, with 30 in total publicly getting the axe and no doubt more quietly behind the scenes. What Netflix shows have been announced to be canceled or ending in 2025? Let’s review all the cancellations, including the final cancellations of the year, including Olympo and Boots.

This year, we’re updating our cancellation article by including a list of series ending with their next season. Many outlets seem to struggle to distinguish between a cancellation and a show being naturally or purposely brought to a close, but we believe there is a significant difference. As a result, we’ll be splitting up this page into two halves: cancellations and shows ending.

Over 20 series were confirmed or announced to be canceled in 2024. As a reminder, those included:

  • Bad Dinosaurs
  • Barbarians
  • Buying Beverly Hills
  • Buying London
  • Dead Boy Detectives
  • Erin & Aaron
  • Everything Now
  • Girls5eva
  • KAOS
  • My Dad The Bounty Hunter
  • Obliterated
  • Ratched
  • Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
  • That 90s Show
  • That Girl Lay Lay
  • The Brothers Sun
  • Unstable

Of course, this list also doesn’t include projects that were shelved before being released on Netflix. Several examples exist, the biggest of which, so far in 2025, is the documentary series on Prince. There is also a large number of series still awaiting renewal (we did a post on all of them here, split up into those we think will get renewed, those that have a 50/50 shot at getting renewed, and those likely canceled), with titles like Bodkin and No Good Deed (now confirmed to be on permanent hiatus) among the list.

Note: Listed in order of newest cancellations to oldest.

Olympo

Another show canceled with strong LGBTQ elements is the Spanish series Olympo, which we actually predicted had a shot at renewal, especially since there were already rumors of its renewal upon its initial release this summer. It wasn’t to be, though, with multiple smaller outlets reporting throughout December that the series was one-and-done, which we confirmed.

Boots

BootsBoots

Picking up widespread positive reviews from critics and (most) audiences, Boots eventually came under the spotlight of the US administration for its less-than-positive portrayal of how those who are gay are treated in the military. Based on the autobiographical novel by Greg Cope White, Boots ultimately took its time hitting our screens and even underwent a name change.

Viewership wasn’t super high for the series, but it wasn’t incredibly low either. It featured in the top 10s for four weeks before ultimately dropping out, pulling in just shy of 25 million views. Given the subject matter, we weren’t expecting blockbuster numbers, but we did predict it would be enough to get it over the line. Sadly, it wasn’t to be.

Billionaires’ Bunker

The creators of Money Heist have had a mixed bag of luck outside of that main franchise, with Sky Rojo perhaps being their only other success since striking an output deal with Netflix. Their big 2025 project was Billionaires’ Bunker, a lavish disaster series set within a nuclear bunker as WWIII rages outside. Sadly, it didn’t meet Netflix’s expectations and was quietly canceled in December 2025.

Starting 5

Netflix’s sports documentary series have been struggling as of late, and Starting 5, Netflix’s NBA docu-series, got a quick season 2 renewal, but a third season won’t be happening. Sources told Sports Business Journal a potential third season had been benched.

3 Adult Animated Series

While 2025 has been pretty good for Netflix on the adult animation front in terms of renewals, we did confirm with sources that three 2024 series, including the fantasy series from Zack Snyder, would not be returning for second seasons. The series not returning includes:

  • Exploding Kittens follows Godcat and Devilcat as their rivalry spills into the human world, creating chaotic, darkly comic trouble for everyone around them.
  • Twilight of the Gods is Zack Snyder’s animated saga that retells Norse mythology through a violent, operatic clash between gods, mortals, and destiny.
  • Good Times revives the classic sitcom as an adult animated comedy charting the wild, often messy misadventures of the Evans family in modern Chicago.

10 Reality Series

Netflix’s reality television lineup has expanded significantly in recent years, and while new projects are being announced frequently, some of the older ones often languish without any official confirmation. We published in early October a number of canceled titles that may be revived in the future, but for now, are permanently shelved. While you can find our full write-up on the cancellations here, here’s a recap of those that won’t be returning anytime soon:

  • Blue Ribbon Baking Championship
  • Celebrity Bear Hunt
  • Cheat: Unfinished Business
  • Floor is Lava
  • Indian Matchmaking
  • Jewish Matchmaking
  • Resurrected Rides
  • The Ultimatum: Queer Love
  • W.A.G.S. To Riches
  • Car Masters: Rust to Riches

The Waterfront

This one continues to puzzle us. Despite a pretty strong early performance and surpassing most other cancellations in terms of viewership, the new series from the creator of Dawson’s Creek ended after just a single season. It picked up mostly solid reviews and definitely found an audience, but alas, it wasn’t to be with Kevin Williamson writing a heartfelt note on social media marking the very brief life of the family empire drama.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft

Although we promised not to include titles that were always intended to end from this list, we’re going to make a bit of an exception for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. While the series did get a “renewal,” it was actually part of an initial upfront order that split the 16 episodes across two seasons. Upon the announcement that season 2 will arrive in December 2025, with the caveat that it’ll be the final season, it certainly suggests that the show has been canceled. It performed poorly on Netflix following its initial release and sparked an internet firestorm in some sections of the internet, due to its creative liberties with the license.

No Good Deed

The creator behind Dead to Me returned in late 2024 with a new comedy show that looks like it’ll never be back despite getting plenty of glowing reviews upon its arrival. Deadline reports that it’s “on indefinite pause.” They add that the door is open for a second season pitch but given the length of time that’s passed and it’s lukewarm viewership numbers, it’s more likely we’ll get a new project altogether than a continuation of any sort.

The Residence

The first bust for Shondaland? It was revealed in early July 2025 that The Residence would not be returning for any future seasons at Netflix. Performance wasn’t entirely there for the series, which got swamped with Adolescence soon after it launched. Given that it’s set up in a limited series format, it’s not the end of the world that the series won’t be returning.

Pulse

Netflix’s first-ever attempt at creating its own medical drama was a bold move, teaming up with Carlton Cuse to bring a chaotic Miami hospital to life. Sadly, the series failed to connect with audiences, with disappointing viewership alongside mixed critical and audience reception. That deadly mix meant a relatively swift cancellation.

The Lady’s Companion

Netflix Spain had ambitious plans for its new period drama series, created by a creator who had previously produced several hits for them, such as Cable Girls. However, word came in May 2025 that the series would not be returning in any capacity. Performance for the series was… OK… likely being partially the reason behind the cancellation of the high-budget series.

Kaala Paani

Renewal reversals are rare, but that’s precisely what happened with the Indian thriller drama Kaala Paani, which was all set for a second season upon its announcement in November 2023, before recent reporting suggests that behind-the-scenes issues have led to the termination of the planned second season, leaving the story unfinished.

The Recruit

Hampered by the strikes, filming eventually got going on a shortened second season of the Noah Centineo series The Recruit from showrunner Alexi Hawley. Sadly, though, the wait between seasons ultimately cost the show a lot of viewership, and in early March, the cast and showrunner confirmed that there wouldn’t be a third season.

Territory

Netflix was gunning for Yellowstone with this new Australian series that debuted in late October 2024. Despite plans to ramp up and do a second season, reports surfaced in February 2025 that Netflix ultimately dropped plans to bring back the show for a second season. Viewership wasn’t particularly strong, but most reports suggest that logistics and timings were ultimately the reason for the cancellation.

Surviving Summer

We’ve been waiting for a while for official confirmation for Surviving Summer, but after doing some digging, it turns out one of the actresses on the show had confirmed to fans on her social media that there were no plans for additional Surviving Summer seasons over the Christmas holiday. The Aussie teen drama concludes with its second and now final season.

Shafted

In March 2025, one of the many spin-offs of the hit Spanish series Alpha Males was announced to be canceled. We’re referring to the French iteration, which only ran for a single season before Tele-Loisirs got word that there were no plans for the show to continue. Guillaume Labbé, who played Cédric alongside Manu Payet, Antoine Gouy, and Vincent Héneine, expressed disappointment, saying he loved the project and working with the team, but accepts that Netflix likely had its reasons.

Tour de France: Unchained

Another high-profile sports docu-series is also coming to an end. Netflix has covered the Tour de France, the world-renowned bicycle race, for the past two years, but they won’t be doing the same for the 2025 race taking place in July with reporting from cycling outlets and a French outlet that Netflix has no plans to continue with the show.

Six Nations: Full Contact

Over the past few years, we’ve seen a surge in new sports documentaries covering a variety of popular sports worldwide. Some have found larger audiences than others, with many aiming to follow in the footsteps of Formula 1: Drive to Survive, which spurred significant investment in the genre.

Netflix’s tennis docu-series was the first to be canceled, and at an event ahead of the launch of Six Nations: Full Contact Season 2, it was confirmed that there are no plans for a third season of the rugby documentary covering the Six Nations tournament.
