American Pickers star Mike Wolfe mourned a devastating family loss on Memorial Day as he revealed his grandfather, Rhesa, died in the line of duty in 1945.
On Monday, May 26, the History Channel star, 60, took to Instagram to honor his late grandfather and share old photos of him.

“My grandfather, Rhesa Filmore Boor, lost his life aboard the USS Evans on May 11th, 1945 while serving our country,” Wolfe began his touching tribute. “Today, we honor the brave men & women who have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.”
He concluded, “While I never got to meet my Grandfather, I’m so proud to be his grandson.”
In addition to the personal message, Wolfe included two black-and-white portraits of his fallen family member.

Wolfe’s Instagram followers reacted to his personal loss on Memorial Day in the comments.
One wrote, “Grateful for your grandfather’s service and sacrifice! He was so handsome. I can see you in his face Mike. ❤️ 🇺🇸 ❤️.”
Someone else echoed, “Can see him in you Mike…”
“May he rest in peace and not be forgotten,” yet another declared.
