An adorable Ontario town has a train caboose glamping experience

12 July 20252 Mins Read

A stunning waterfront, historical architecture, and a vibrant downtown area – sounds perfect, right? Smith’s Falls is an eastern Ontario town that has a lot to offer despite its population of under 10,000 people.

The town is right in the heart of the Rideau Canal. According to the town’s website, the area spans 90 acres of beautiful parkland and has plenty of outdoor sights to explore.

For those who love a hike, the Cataraqui Trail is for you. This 103-kilometre, point-to-point trail with an entrance off Lombard Street can be used year-round following the former CN line from Smiths Falls to Strathcona.

Lounge by the shores of Murphy Park Beach and enjoy a day by the water. According to Smith Falls, there’s a swimming area for small children and a larger swimming area for those who may want to raft to jump through the canal.

Downtown is filled with shops and restaurants to explore. If you’re hungry, be sure to check out The Lockmaster’s Taphouse, a popular casual spot with dishes such as fish and chips, feta dip, steak and more.

The town also has a National Historic Site — the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario.

“Visitors can climb up into the cupola of a caboose, enjoy a dental car, a gorgeous 1880s CN dining car or inspect the track in a Speeder Car.”

The museum also has an exciting glamping experience where guests can book an overnight stay in a vintage caboose!

There are three historic cabooses available to book, with the listing encouraging guests to “curl up in our comfortable beds with fresh linens and relax in the quiet glow of the lantern.”

See you soon, Smiths Falls.
