An Extraction Series’ First Behind the Scenes Look & Production Moves to Morocco

Production on Mercenary: An Extraction Series has wrapped in Ireland and has resumed filming in Morocco. We also get our first look at Omar Sy in action as Kalidou Diallo, along with a behind-the-scenes image. Here’s everything you need to know about the Mercenary: An Extraction Series on Netflix.

Mercenary: An Extraction Series is an upcoming Netflix Original action-thriller series and a spin-off of the highly popular Extraction films, which stars Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake. Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead) is the showrunner of the series, with Jessica Granger as writer. Louise Hooper (The Sandman) and Tim Southam (One Piece) are the series directors, with each directing half of the season’s episodes. 

AGBO, the production company behind the Extraction films, is producing the series, with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and Chris Castaldi serving as executive producers. Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin are executive producers, and it has been confirmed that Louise Hooper and Tim Southman will be executive producers on the episodes they direct.

Netflix is all in with Extraction, considering a third film is on the way, and the Korean spin-off Extraction: TYGO was recently announced.

Netflix has provided a logline for the series :

“In this action-packed thriller, a mercenary (Omar Sy) embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, he must navigate life-or-death choices while confronting deep emotional wounds. The series explores the trauma, betrayal, and moral conflicts of characters pushed to the edge.”

The first cast member to be announced was Omar Sy, who will play the role of the mercenary Kalidou Diallo.” Sy will be best known to Netflix subscribers as Assane Diop, the gentleman thief in Lupin. He also starred in film franchises such as Jurassic World, Transformers, and X-Men.

Filming has been ongoing since September 2025. It started in Ireland, which Netflix recently confirmed has wrapped, and production has moved to Morocco. The remainder of filming is expected to end in early 2026.

Netflix also released its first behind-the-scenes image of the series with Omar Sy in action as Kalidou Diallo.

What is the episode count?

Netflix has confirmed there will be eight episodes. 

The episode runtimes have not yet been announced.

There is no official confirmation on the release date of Mercenary: An Extraction Series. With filming expected to wrap in early 2026 and with post-production likely to be long, the earliest we could foresee the series being released on Netflix is early 2027.  

For now, we await further updates from Netflix.
