An Ontario lookout leads to panoramic views 200 feet above Lake Superior

16 July 20253 Mins Read

Views on views on views. This summer, we’re getting outside, and if you’re going to spend the day in the great outdoors, you may as well make the journey worth it. Neys Provincial Park has one of the best lookouts in the province (in my opinion), and it needs to be added to any Ontario resident’s list of places to visit this summer.

The park is a bit of a drive if you’re living in Toronto or the GTA, but a trip to Northern Ontario is never a bad plan if you’re looking for outdoor activities.

Neys can be found along the north shore of Lake Superior, slightly west of Marathon.

When I visited this park in 2018, one of the first things I did was visit the beach. A 2 km beach spans Ashburton Bay on Lake Superior, and according to Ontario Parks, has some of the finest sand around. I can confirm the water is clean, and the views are fantastic to boot.

Time to hike to the lookout, and to get there, you’re going to want to head to the (appropriately named) Lookout Trail.

The nice thing about this trail is that it’s considered a moderate hike, meaning most people can handle it. While the distance is just 1.6 km, the walk to the lookout spot will take you past sand dunes, spruce forests, and beautiful exposed rock.

The reward at the end of the hike is the incredible sight of Lake Superior as you stand 200 feet above it, its beaches, and ancient fossils and rocks, which are said to be some of the oldest in the entire world. Pretty cool.

If you want to stay at Neys for more than a day, there is the option to do some car camping or book one of the roofed accommodations in the park.

Day passes start at $12.25.

Enjoy the views, Ontario.
