An Ontario township boasts 31 lakes, 8 rivers, and two provincial parks

19 June 20252 Mins Read

Tay Valley Township is the place to be this summer. The area boasts 31 lakes, eight rivers and two provincial parks, so one thing is for sure: there’s no shortage of outdoor adventures awaiting you.

When it comes to the lakes here, it may feel hard to narrow down which ones to explore, but Tay Valley Township has created a way to help you out.

The town has a list of all its lakes on the town website, with descriptions of each one including the lake dimensions, depth and any additional small details you may need to know.

Take your exploration to the next level and make a stop at one (or both) of Tay’s provincial parks – Murphys Point and Silver Lake Provincial Park.

Murphys Point features a nearly 1900s mica mine that guests can explore, while Silver Lake is the perfect stop for a beach day, home to a wide crescent of sandy beachfront.

As for getting in your steps, there are trails within Murphy’s Point that are perfect for a day on your feet. Point Trail spans 5.5 km, as it loops to the tip of the peninsula with views of Big Rideau Lake as you hike along.

The Sylvan Trail is a bit shorter at 2.2 km, but still promises amazing views as you trek alongside the geology and ecology of the Frontenac Arch, the southernmost extension of the Canadian Shield.

A town with so many places to explore comes with a rich history, too.

Tay Valley Township has over 15 historic mills, all used throughout the 1800s and 1900s to saw lumber, cut shingles, de-bark logs, ground grain and minerals, card wool, spin textiles, and provide water for local scotch whiskey.

We can’t wait to visit you, Tay.
