Academy Award winner Josh Cooley set to write 99 Nights in the Forest movie
Roblox’s horror survival hit game 99 Nights in the Forest is getting its own movie. While details about the upcoming movie are still scarce, some big names have just been revealed to be attached to the project: Josh Cooley and Sam Raimi.
Movies and TV shows based on video games have been a thing for decades, but they’ve really taken off in recent years. The Super Mario Bros. movies proved to be great successes for Nintendo, each grossing over $1 billion. A close third was A Minecraft Movie (2025), which already has a sequel lined up. Hollywood filmmakers have found the next big thing, and they’re ready to turn all sorts of popular video games into movies, ranging from The Legend of Zelda to Roblox games such as 99 Nights in the Forest.
Toy Story 4 director and Inside Out writer hired to work on 99 Nights in the Forest
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Cooley has been hired to write the screenplay for 99 Nights in the Forest. Cooley directed Transformers One (2024) and Toy Story 4 (2019). For his work on the latter, he was awarded an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. He wrote the screenplay for Inside Out (2015), which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
Sam Raimi is another exciting name associated with the upcoming Roblox movie. Raimi is known for directing the Evil Dead movies as well as Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy. Now, he’s coming on board as a producer on 99 Nights in the Forest. Fans can rest easy, as it’s clear 99 Nights in the Forest is in good hands with Josh Cooley and Sam Raimi.
99 Nights in the Forest isn’t the only Roblox game being turned into a movie. Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, two extremely popular games on Roblox, are also headed to Hollywood, as both titles have films currently in development.
