Arash Madani is done at Sportsnet after 16 years

13 March 20252 Mins Read

After 16 years with Sportsnet, Arash Madani is out of a job.

The veteran broadcaster announced his own departure today on X.

“After 16 incredible years, my time at Sportsnet has come to an end,” Madani said.

“And honestly, what a thrilling ride: Super Bowls, NBA Finals, Stanley Cups, World Series, Grey Cups, all those Olympic Games; pitch-side when Canada finally qualified for the World Cup, a decade after being there in Honduras; Wimbledon, The Masters, that incredible FIBA World Cup where Shai & Co. qualified for Paris. You name it, the network sent me to handle them all,” Madani wrote.

Through his first 14 years with the network, Madani was perhaps best known for covering the Toronto Blue Jays, before pivoting away from the MLB, beginning with the 2023 season.

“It’s not lost on me that a first-generation Canadian from Truro, N.S., was able to live out his dream. Maybe what meant most over the years were the number of Maritimers and those of Middle Eastern descent who would stop to tell me they appreciated how I represented them when they’d see me on air. The biggest lessons I’ve learned here: You never know the impact you can have on those around you,” he continued.

He was honoured with the George Gross award in 2017 for outstanding broadcasting.

“Mom and Dad really liked that one,” he reflected.

While he didn’t state a reason for the departure, Madani implied that the move wasn’t exactly his choice.

“We all understand what we sign up for: a volatile industry where change is the constant, and I had been able to avoid it until now. While disappointed, appreciate the run and all that’s come with it. Most fortunate to have done it with incredible teammates and worked with so many colleagues behind the scenes who are determined to make content at a high level.”

Madani also touched on his next steps, hinting at a desire to remain in the broadcasting industry.

“Looking forward to what’s next and being on your screens down the road. Until then, merci beaucoup, for everything. It’s been a real privilege, mes amis,” Madani added.
