Arrest made after 12-year-old boy on bike shot and killed, 2 men injured in the Bronx

NEW YORK CITY – A shooting claimed the life of a boy innocently riding his bike through the Bronx on Saturday afternoon, and now a man has been taken into custody for his murder less than a day later.

What we know:

Authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:55 p.m. outside 104 Elliot Place in the Mount Eden neighborhood. They arrived to find three male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The 12-year-old victim was shot in the shoulder and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have identified the boy as Jacob Freytes.

“Jacob was an innocent bystander on his bike when he was taken from his family yesterday in an act of senseless gun violence,” NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said on Sunday.

Two adult victims were also shot: a 34-year-old man in the left foot and a 25-year-old man in the lower body. Both men are currently listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

On Sunday morning, William Ferrer was arrested at 11:04 a.m. in the 52nd Precinct outside his home in the Bronx. The 45-year-old is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, six counts of assault and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

What we don’t know:

A motive for the deadly shooting is still unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
