Ashes Tour Fuels Record Hotel Occupancy and Rates Across Australia

18 December 20252 Mins Read

  • The Ashes Tour significantly boosted hotel occupancy and revenue in Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide, with record-breaking figures.
  • Forward bookings in Adelaide are nearing full capacity, highlighting the tour’s impact on the travel industry.

The Ashes Tour has driven a surge in hotel performance across key Australian cities, with Perth and Brisbane seeing unprecedented occupancy and revenue. According to CoStar, a leading provider of real estate analytics, the tour has driven hotel occupancy in Perth to an impressive 96% during the first Test from November 21-25. The average daily rate (ADR) reached AUD 409.36, and revenue per available room (RevPAR) reached AUD 393.03, marking the highest figures on record for the city and reflecting year-over-year growth of nearly 50%.

Brisbane also saw a significant boost during the second Test from December 4-8, with occupancy peaking at 90.3% on the first night. The city recorded its highest ADR and RevPAR on the third night, with increases of 55.7% and 74.4%, respectively.

Adelaide is set to continue this trend as it prepares to host the third Test, which starts on December 17, with forward bookings already peaking at 96.1%. The upcoming Tests in Melbourne and Sydney are also seeing strong booking levels, with Melbourne at 84.6% occupancy on December 27 and Sydney at 61.3% on January 4.

This surge in hotel performance highlights the significant impact of the Ashes Tour on the travel and hospitality industry, offering a much-needed boost following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
