Auditions (Calgary): A Christmas Carol Radio Play Live – Lunchbox Theatre, Theater News

25 April 20263 Mins Read

AUDITION NOTICE
Lunchbox Theatre is happy to invite audition submissions for our production of A Christmas Carol Radio Play Live.
Adapted and directed by Bronwyn Steinberg

ABOUT THE PLAY
It’s the Golden Age of Radio, and a local radio station celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the publication of Dickens’ beloved classic A Christmas Carol with a live broadcast. In this brand-new adaptation by Lunchbox Artistic Director Bronwyn Steinberg, three multi-talented actors take on the story’s iconic characters while also creating the foley sound effects live on stage.

Ebenezer Scrooge’s Christmas Eve journey takes him through his past, present and future towards reinventing himself as a better person. Since 1843, this story has brought light, hope and holiday cheer to readers and audiences worldwide. Setting the play’s radio broadcast of this classic tale in 1943 underscores the need for generosity of spirit and light in dark times.

AVAILABLE ROLES

HOST (she/her, any age 30s to 70s) – the host of the radio show. In A Christmas Carol, plays Narrator, Ghost of Christmas Past, Belle, Tiny Tim and others.
ACTOR 1 (any gender & any age 30s to 70s) – an actor & foley performer for the radio station. In A Christmas Carol, plays Ebenezer Scrooge and others.
ACTOR 2 (any gender & age) – an actor & foley performer for the radio station. In A Christmas Carol, plays Bob Cratchit, Fred, Jacob Marley, Ghost of Christmas Present and others.

As all cast members play multiple roles for the radio broadcast, facility with voice acting is essential. All 3 cast members will also create live foley sound effects on stage and possibly sing and/or play musical instrument(s). Musical experience and ability to sing in 3-part harmony is an asset.

The pronouns and ages listed are descriptions of the characters. Actors are welcome to express interest for any roles, regardless of gender or age.
