AUDITION NOTICE – THE THEATRE
The Boss of It All
by Lars von Trier, adapted by Jack McNamara

Directed by Abagail Vanmerlin and Jakob Schaefer

The owner of an IT firm wants to sell his company. The only trouble is, when he started his firm, he invented a non-existent company president to hide behind when unpopular steps needed to be taken. When a potential buyer insists on negotiating with the “Boss”, face-to-face, the owner decides to hire a failed actor to play the part. The actor suddenly discovers he is a pawn in a much larger web of lies.

Character Breakdown

Actors are welcome to express interest in any role. Strong comedic timing is necessary for all characters.

• KRISTOFFER (m), an actor, 30s to 40s, naïve, charismatic, vane, charming, delusional. Must be a strong comedic and physical performer.

• RAVN (m) head of a company (CAST)

• FINNUR (m) Islandic businessman 50s-60s, blunt, authoritative, dry, angry.

• INTERPRETER (m), Finnur’s translator, mid-20s to 50s

• LISE (f) Company employee, 30-40s, confident, grounded, sensual, authoritative.

• GORM (m) Company employee, 30-50s, blunt, emotionally wounded, physically unpredictable. Must have explosive comedic energy.

• NALLE (m) Company employee, 20s-50s, quiet, nervous, likes to keep the peace, the underdog.

• METTE (f) Company employee, 30-50s, fragile, tearful, manic, naïve.

Setting: An IT office in Denmark, Winter.

We are currently only considering Calgary-based actors. Please submit:

Submission deadline: October 20, 2025
Auditions: October 24, 2025, at The Theatre in Calgary’s Beltline from 4pm-8pm.

Engagement Details
This production operates under a professional, non-equity, profit-sharing model. We welcome auditions from Equity members; however, please note that this is a professional non-Equity production, and any necessary permissions or arrangements with Equity groups are the responsibility of the individual artist. Profits from ticket sales (earnings after production expenses) will be shared equally among the cast and crew.
Rehearsals begin: Monday, December 1, 2025 (Break Dec 19-Jan 5)

Rehearsal schedule is as follows:
Monday, Thursday, Friday from 6pm-10pm; Saturday & Sunday 10am-4pm
Tech Week: January 19th-22nd from 6:00pm-11:00pm

Opening: Friday, January 23, 2026
Dark Days: Monday, January 26, 2026 & Monday, February 2, 2026
Closing: Saturday, February 7, 2026
