Staged Theatre Productions is searching for actors for Old Man Sallow Who Lives on Crypt Rock which is being staged at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival 2025 (August 14-14, 2025).
SYNOPSIS: Four young amateur theatre creators cobble together a show telling the life story of their local legend, Old Man Sallow, an recluse who lives in a nearby lighthouse. They’ve barely had any rehearsal time and every player has a different idea of what the show is about, however, it’s opening night of the show and this is their only shot to prove themselves. A comedy coming-of-age about community, loss, amateur theatre, and growing up.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
PLAYER 1 – The neurotic leader of the troupe who runs the production (often with very little success). They’ve invited a representative from a post-secondary theatre school to the show in the hopes that they’ll invite Player 1 to their illustrious program. They need everything tonight to go perfect, and for people to love the performance. Early to mid twenties.
PLAYER 2 – The happy-go-lucky member who brings humor and a levity to the production. Often citing their fledgling improv troupe for inspiration, they hope the audience and other players leave the evening with a smile on their face. Early to mid twenties.
PLAYER 3 – The melancholic contrarian in the company who is only there because they “owe a favor” to Player 1. Adds death and suffering to the script whenever they get the chance, much to the chagrin of the other characters. Wants the show to end as quickly as possible so they may move on from this mess. Early to mid twenties.
PLAYER 4 – The romantic of the group. Believes that love is the most powerful thing in the world, although they’ve never experienced it themselves. Often interjects and changes to the show make things more positive and lighthearted. Enthralled by Player 1’s passion, they wish for the world to see Player 1 in the same light that they see them. Early to mid twenties.
Old Man Sallow – Largely a movement-based role with the exception of a monologue. The “character” of Old Man Sallow in the show put on by Players 1 through 4 who embodies the story narrated by the Players. Early to mid twenties.
Note: Roles will be cast regardless of gender, with the playwright being willing to make appropriate changes to reflect this. Ages are approximate.
