Auditions (Edmonton): THE BIN – Nextfest 2026, Theater News

24 February 20263 Mins Read

Screecher’s Theatre is hosting auditions for the premiere of THE BIN, written by Lexi House and directed by Darienne Johnson at Nextfest 2026.

There will be four showings between June 4–14 in the Lorne Cardinal Theatre. Rehearsals will take place between March and June in Edmonton.

Synopsis: THE BIN follows Goose, a nursing student who joins her friends at their Athabasca cabin for the weekend. When things take a turn for the worse, Goose relies on the aid of animal spirits to make it home safely. A gory, surreal love-letter to Treaty 8 and the people who call it home.

Character Descriptions:

GOOSE DESJARLAIS, 19. Quiet, reserved, but not docile. Bottles up her emotions until they explode. Doubles as PARAMEDIC. This role requires brief stage intimacy. Only Indigenous actors will be considered for the role of GOOSE.

AVA FISHER, 18. The chirpy, optimistic life of the party; she is more calculated than she leads others to believe. Goose’s best friend and Johnny’s girlfriend. Doubles as THE WOLF and EVENING RADIO HOST. This role requires brief stage intimacy.

DUKE CARDINAL, 20. Thoughtful, gentle, and physically intimidating. Despite his size, he is a massive push-over. Doubles as THE BEAR and OFFICER ONE.

RILEY MACDONALD, 19. A crass but well-intentioned young man who rarely thinks before he speaks. His face is covered in scars from childhood mishaps. Doubles as THE FOX and MORNING RADIO HOST.

RILEY SNOOK, 19. Went missing in January of 2022. Intelligent, kind, and ambitious. Goose’s girlfriend. Doubles as THE COYOTE.

JOHNNY VAN DER MEER, 20. Not being cast at this time. Tall, handsome, and frightening. The sort of guy who can be devastatingly charming when he wants to be. Ava’s boyfriend.

This show contains depictions of alcohol use, drug use, violence, mentions of sexual assault, as well as explicit depictions of homicide. Due to the nature and content of this show, only actors over the age of 18 will be considered.

Please Email an acting resume, as well as a headshot (if available) to [email protected] With the subject line “THE BIN Audition – (Your Name)”. In the body of the email please include the character(s) you are interested in auditioning for, as well as any accessibility needs you may have. Having accessibility needs will NOT influence the casting decisions, we just want to ensure we know how we can best accommodate you!

Those selected for an audition will be contacted by March 6th for an audition slot. Auditions will consist of sides that will be sent out to those selected for an audition. Thank you!
