Rosebud Theatre & School of the Arts in Rosebud Alberta, producing professional live theatre that illustrates the beauty and complexity of life through an inclusive and grace-filled perspective, is accepting audition submissions for its upcoming musical production of ANNE OF GREEN GABLES Music by Nancy Ford, Book & Lyrics by Gretchen Cryer, Orchestrations by Dave Hab, From the Novel by Lucy Maude Montgomery
Anne of Green Gables follows the misadventures of a wildly independent orphan with fiery red hair and a temper to match. Cherished by generations, L.M. Montgomery’s timeless classic comes to life in this musical commissioned by the award-winning Theatreworks USA. Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to live with a plainspoken farmer and his spinster sister, who thought they were adopting a boy! She wins over the Cuthberts and all of Prince Edward Island with her irrepressible spirit and imagination — and wins over audiences with this warm, poignant story about love, home and family.
We are looking to cast the following roles:
Anne Shirley – An intelligent, self-sufficient orphan whose bravery and kind heart bring a fresh outlook and bright light to those around her. Redheaded, freckled, and homely looking. Short temper. Talkative, chipper, and stubborn.
Gender: female Age: 14 to 18
Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: A3
Gilbert Blythe – A strong-willed and intelligent man who dreams of becoming a doctor. Rivals Anne for top marks in school. His heart is quickly captured by Anne. Self-assured. Charming. Hard working.
Gender: male Age: 16 to 20
Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: B3
Diana Barry – Brought up in a more traditional home, she is captivated by Anne and becomes her best friend. Sweet and caring. Pretty but in no way vain.
Gender: female Age: 14 to 18
Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: A3
Rachel Lynde – Marilla’s friend and busybody neighbor. Warns the Cuthberts against taking in an orphan, but is eventually won over. Gossips and over-exaggerates. Makes fun of Anne’s physical shortcomings when she has some of her own.
Gender: female Age: 35 to 55
Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: G3
Mrs. Barry – Diana’s mother. Worries about her daughter’s associations. Fussy nature gives way to an open heart when Anne saves her youngest daughter.
Gender: female Age: 35 to 55
Vocal range top: C5 Vocal range bottom: A3
Josie Pye – An Avonlea schoolgirl who antagonizes Anne Shirley and vies for Gilbert’s attentions. Not particularly smart or hard working. Aloof. A party girl who is brash and effortlessly abrasive.
Gender: female Age: 14 to 18
Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: E4
Mr. Phillips/Postmaster – The schoolmaster. He is a kind man, but insists on respect and good behavior from his students and sometimes must be accordingly harsh with them.
Gender: male Age: 40 to 60
Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: B3
Age ranges and gender expressions are those of the characters, not the actors.
The production dates are: Music rehearsal from May 5, Rehearsals from May 12 through June 5, Performances from June 4 to September 5
