Living in B.C. can truly spoil a person if you let it. Having the ocean, mountains, and lush forests surrounding Vancouver makes the city alone a remarkable place to live and visit. Beyond Vancouver, boundless outdoor adventures await in the Canadian Rockies, along the Sunshine Coast, among the ancient trees of Vancouver Island, and beyond. And a new list by Lonely Planet names our beautiful province as one of the top travel destinations for 2026.
Their team of travel experts hand-selected 25 destinations to compile its list of memorable globetrot-worthy journeys. Alongside the likes of Botswana, Ireland, Brazil, Thailand, Italy, South Korea, and the Solomon Islands, B.C. was recognized for its natural splendour and rising multiculturalism.
“Best for embracing nature”
The list featured B.C. as the “best for embracing nature,” highlighting its wildlife-rich ecosystems, mossy forests, and white-water rivers.
It was also recognized for its work with local First Nations to create greater visibility of their heritage and culture throughout the province.
“Not only is the province the ancestral home of 204 First Nations, whose heritage is visible in everything from totem poles to ceremonial masks, but its largest city, Vancouver, has developed into a rich mélange of international food and culture.”
Finally, B.C.’s wine country got a shoutout. With the number of wineries tripling in B.C. between 2004 and 2024, it’s no wonder that our local wine industry has attracted attention from near and far. Plus, its dedication to organic, regenerative farming extends from wine grapes to seasonal vegetables, to summer berries, and everything in between.
So while Vancouver continues to get pummeled by rain this week, it’s worth taking a moment to appreciate all that B.C. has to offer. And you don’t have to be a tourist to enjoy it all!
