Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning is stunning on the red carpet after getting very candid about her personal life.
Gunning, 40, rose to stardom and earned critical acclaim for her role in Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, which told the story of a woman who stalks an aspiring comedian. She earned an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role in the 2024 miniseries. In an intimate new interview, the actress, who is set to play ’60s music star Mama Cass Elliot, shared about never having been in a relationship before. But as anyone who has seen the brunette beauty knows, she has a bright future ahead of her.
Gunning hit the Australian premiere of The Magic Faraway Tree at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter in Sydney, Australia, this week. She appears in the film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s book alongside Michael Palin, Lenny Henry, Claire Foy, Jennifer Saunders, Andrew Garfield, and Nicola Coughlan. What Has Jessica Gunning Said About Never Having Been in a Relationship?
Last week, Gunning opened up in a revealing interview about how she’s never been in a relationship before.
“I’ve never been in a relationship before with anyone,” Gunning told The Times of London in a new interview. “Everyone around me was gay. I just didn’t think I could be.”
Gunning, who came out as gay in 2022, said her sexuality was the main reason she avoided romance.
“Well, not to get too deep, but it was probably that I didn’t want to go out with guys and so I was finding a way to avoid it,” she told The Times. “I never knew how to flirt, I didn’t get it. I was always friends with guys and would set them up with other friends. In a way it was, like, ‘Great, because I’m not interested.’ ”
Gunning also said that her insecurity about dating stemmed from her feelings about her weight.
“It might be connected to size, maybe because I was bigger,” she said. “It’s hard to word this because I don’t want it to seem like I’m saying it in a negative way, because it definitely isn’t. I didn’t feel like an alien in a negative way, but it was, like, an otherness.”
