Baby Steps delayed over Hollow Knight: Silksong release date

26 August 20252 Mins Read

Baby Steps is the latest game to get out of the way of Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s recently revealed release date. Publisher Devolver Digital announced Tuesday that physics-based walking simulator Baby Steps has a new launch date: Sept. 23 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.

Previously, Baby Steps was slated for release on Sept. 8, but that’s just four days after the highly anticipated release date for Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was announced in accordance with Gamescom. And like a lot of other indie games that were scheduled for early September, Devolver and the devs behind Baby Steps (Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and viral hitmaker Bennett Foddy) are avoiding the impact radius of the Hollow Knight sequel, which has been many years in the making.

Not that Silksong and Baby Steps are in direct competition, mind you. One is a Metroidvania-style action platformer and the other is a comedic walking sim starring an unemployed sedentary schlub. Only one of those games boasts a “fully dynamic onesie soilage system.” Still, all eyes will probably be on Silksong and whether it lives up to the hype after a long, long wait.

Devolver is following in the footsteps of indies like Demonschool, CloverPit, and Aeterna Lucis, all of which have had their releases shifted by either their studios or their publishers, to dodge an attention vacuum created by Silksong.

There’s still plenty coming out around Hollow Knight: Silksong, including some relatively heavy hitters like Star Wars Outlaws for Nintendo Switch 2, Bloober Team’s Cronos: The New Dawn, and NBA 2K26. But the message is clear: If you’re an indie hoping to get maximum attention on your early September game, maybe get out of Team Cherry’s way now (and get some media coverage for delaying your game).
