Basketball star Kevin Love knows what it’s like to develop emotional resilience, and he’s hoping to help others do the same.
The Utah Jazz forward-center, 37, who previously played for the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers, established the Kevin Love Fund in 2018 to inspire people to live their healthiest lives by creating equity between mental and physical health. Now, the baller and mental health advocate’s organization has teamed up with Sony Pictures Animation to launch GOAT: Beyond the Game, a free curriculum featuring four lessons inspired by the studio’s latest original animated feature film GOAT.
The curriculum is designed to help students build confidence and resilience, develop a growth mindset, and navigate emotions. The program brings the film’s core themes into the classroom through student activities.
“Being comfortable in your own skin—that’s the game-changer, on the court or in life. For years, I held everything in because I thought that’s what I was supposed to do. But speaking up and reaching out? That’s real strength,” said Love, founder of the Kevin Love Fund. “With GOAT: Beyond the Game, we want kids to see themselves in these characters and know that talking about how you feel isn’t a weakness. It’s what makes you unstoppable.”
In a new Instagram post, Love talks about his own journey to mental health.
“When I opened up about my panic attack in 2018, I never imagined it would lead to this. Free lessons on emotional wellness and resilience reaching classrooms all across the world,” he shared, adding statistics that include 1 in 5 students struggle with difficult emotions and life challenges. “These lessons give them real tools they can use, whether they’re dealing with self-doubt, anger, setbacks, social media overload, or just navigating the ups and downs of growing up.”
