The new Netflix original Sirens is a limited series that comes off as a campy eat-the-rich satire, slowly turning into something more sinister. Think of The White Lotus’s uber-rich caricatures and blend them with Jean Smart’s parasitic boss in Hacks. Throw in some subplots on troubled siblings, class differences, and some fancily colourful locales, and voila, you have a psychological thriller-cum-dark comedy ripe for your watchlist.
What is Sirens about?
The Netflix series boasts a star-studded ensemble with Oscar-winner Julianne Moore in her A-game as Michaela, a socialite whose controlling traits might very well make her a cult leader. Running between Michaela’s fingertips is her overworked but fiercely loyal assistant Simone (House of the Dragon breakout star Milly Alcock). But when Simone’s older sister Devon (Meghann Fahy from The White Lotus season 2 and more recently Drop) attempts to check up on her sister, she finds herself navigating a nexus of power and obsession in and around some jaw-droppingly lavish real estate.
Produced by actress Margot Robbie, Sirens is adapted from the satirical play Elemeno Pea by Molly Smith Metzler, with the playwright also serving as showrunner.
Where was Sirens filmed?
Netflix’s answer to the Saltburn manor, the central location in Sirens is a palatial house in a remote house. But despite the air of mystery, the locations of Sirens don’t require you to fly around to some exotic White Lotus retreat. The heart of the series remains in the state of New York. Here’s a rundown of where Sirens was brought to life.

Lloyd Harbour, New York
Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore) and her hedge-fund husband Peter (Kevin Bacon) are shown to be living in a fancy house near a small island village. The quaint but affluent location is fictional in the series but it exists at Lloyd Harbor, a Long Island village that has attracted celebrity renters like Angelina Jolie, Billy Joel, and Jerry Seinfeld. The harbor’s small-town feel perfectly complements the gossip that surrounds a billionaire couple like the Kells. Most of the scenes in and around their palatial mansion were filmed at this high-price New York Village.

Caumsett State Historic Park Reserve, New York
Long Island’s Caumsett State Historic Park Reserve stood in for the fictional Cliff House, the palatial mansion owned by the Kells. The location’s connection to nature is essential to Sirens as Michaela is described to be a passionate conservationist. Cliff House is dotted with enough greenery to support her aviary passions. Taking care of large raptor birds, she frees them in the wilderness around her. The park’s estate house goes back to 1921 when the area was owned by an American investment banker. Initially serving as a country club and hunting preserve, the estate house and the surrounding forests were turned into a state park by the New York State in 1961.

While every episode of Siren unfurls in the vicinity of the Caumsett State Historic Park Reserve, the actual house is still heavily edited by the show’s VFX team. Smoothened around the edges and saturated with brighter tones, the updated house serves as a modern update on the century-old establishment. But the overall design of the original location is still kept intact as the estate house serves as the skeleton of Cliff House.

Steiner Studios, New York
The Caumsett State Park doubles for the Kells’ not-so-humble abode only in terms of the exteriors. The lavish interiors were all designed in sets at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, New York. Recent film and TV projects to shoot there include Joker, West Side Story, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Who is cast in Sirens?
Milly Alcock and Meghann Fahy lead the pack, playing warring sisters Devon and Simone. Building a rift between the two is Julianne Moore, with the Boogie Nights and Still Alice actress playing eccentric socialite Michaela. The ensemble cast also includes veteran Hollywood star Kevin Bacon (Footloose, Tremors) as Michaela’s ominous husband, Paul, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia regular Glenn Howerton as sleazy neighbour and Simone’s hidden lover, Ethan.
Ozark villain Felix Sois stars as Cliff House’s head of security Jose while character actor Bill Camp (Joker, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) plays Devon and Simone’s lonely father Bruce.
